I would say that if she lived at home then at that time she would have gone or been sent further a field to have a child at such a young age.most were.,,,,,as it may be the case of yourself.?

Her sister and brother went to collect her in Weymouth for the 1946 child. I believe I was born in camberllkey as it was a baptist church home and her mother was a baptist.

Just heard from GRO that the Eileen M was not my BM so back to the drawing board. I am trying to find who holds the records for St Gabriels Home and Adoption Society in Weymouth but Nat Archives only have 1949 onwards and I need 1946.
Anyone got any good ideas please?

Andrea have you actually applied for your adoption file? It would have more details than your birth certificate.

Yes, I have got the file. Details very thin.

So are you saying the Eileen you have been following, including contact with her family is the wrong one and not your mother?

If so you need to go back to basics - using only the actual facts from your BC & adoption file. Does your BC have an address, other than the place of birth, so you could check out the ERs? It should also have her occupation.

There was a forced delay between birth &I the mother finally consenting to adoption - is there any address for the consent letter & form which could help? How are you 100% sure on her birth year - was her dob on the adoption file, or just an age?

The Eileen Mary Rose I have found is def.my mother. BUT she was NOT the person who married in 1943 as suggested by a couple of posts on this thread and one of the missing children is not Elaine as also suggested by a couple of posts.
So, for the avoidance of doubt, what I am looking for is either the 1 (or 2) children born before me in 1946 and in 1948/9. The one in 1946 was supposedly a girl born in Weymouth but I can find no trace of her. I have applied for numerous certs and none have been correct

Sorry, this is confusing, you stated "Just heard from GRO that the Eileen M was not my BM so back to the drawing board"

So are you certain that the Eileen M born in 1928 Poole with mmn Hallett is your mother? She had so many siblings to track, how many have you been in contact with to verify the info you have?

I'm just trying to get a handle on what you know for fact rather than hearsay - I was in a similar position a few years ago and eventually found that although most of the pieces fit (and some I made fit in my mind) led me to the wrong person. Luckily I found out before making any contact with her or her family.

Also, there is no Rose/ mmn Rose birth in Weymouth (or Dorset) registered a year either side of 1946 as you and other posters have stated. A birth has to be registered in the area it happened, so I'd at least expect to find one in Dorset. The nearest girl is in 1944 Bournmouth.

I have confused the issue. When I said "the Eileen M was not my BM", I was referring to the lead I was given that she had married in 1943, NOT to the fact that she was my BM. Unequivocally she is my BM, she admitted it to me in a letter over 20 years ago but refused any contact.
I am aware of the fact that I can not find a birth cert for a girl in the correct time frame and I am now clutching at straws.I have been told by Dorset CC that they are only aware of one M+B home in Weymouth, St Gabriels (which also had an adoption society) and I am trying to find out where those records are. National Archives from 1949 onwards but nobody will put their hand up for the records prior to 1949.
