I agree that i am going to have to get Mums birth certificate to be able to move forward.Thank you for all your help the feed back has been amazing . you all clearly know what you are doing on here. The information i received is from Mum herself but i also know that with her being so young at the time that she probably did not know the facts .I feel it such a shame she didn't talk to me more ,but we avoided the subject so as not to upset her as i know she missed her brothers .You all have given me alot to go on and to think about so thank you again

an Eric Oliver (that is, the son, is my suggestion) married in Middlesbrough in 1965

he and his wife are on the current electoral roll

I will send Angela privately the info from freeelectoralroll since search results can't be linked to there

I have also sent information that seems to be about Ann's brother David

(two David W Oliver births were registered in the same quarter; probably the other one, born in Leeds, is the one in Leeds on the current electoral roll)

I do think the Olive Oliver death is interesting though ... except surprisingly there are loads of Olive marriages to surname Oliver, and ours had middle initial M

I've wondered whether the Middlesbrough Hamilton-Oliver marriage might be related ...

Sylvia A Hamilton to John J Oliver

there's no such Sylvia birth

death? Sylvia Ann Oliver - 25 Oct 1930 - died Sep 1983 Cleveland

and actually since Angela says David went to live with his mother in Middlesbrough ...

Births Mar 1921 ?
Hamilton Olive Angus Middlesbro' 9d 1022

Rambling Rose, you may have missed my earlier comment

there is a Hamilton-Oliver marriage in Middlesbrough 1951 that in all likelihood would account for those births in Middlesbrough (edited, I originally said marriages)

However I am also wondering about the birth of Peter in Cleveland the year after Josephine ... there is not another marriage to account for that birth

... whether Ann's mum partnered with another man after the separation (but since she was still married, the birth was registered in her husband's surname)

Couple of possible marriages in the 70s for the other Oliver/Hamilton daughter born Middlesbrough, which may be worth looking at, if parentage is confirmed. ( not posting as we don't know for sure who's who).

May not be connected, but one of the children born middlesbrough may have died in Durham, as there isn't a matching birth that I can see

Deaths Mar 1954 (>99%)
Oliver Marianne 0 Durham S.E. 1a 681

which 'might' suggest the family moved?

possible?? From find a grave Olive Oliver
Birth: 1922

if I'm understanding, Ann's parents had separated ... David was taken from the home to live with his mother?

I wonder whether one or both parents remarried

these could match father Eric ...

remarriage: Eric Oliver - Vera Townsend Or Oliver Apr-May-Jun 1952 York

'Townsend or Oliver' indicating they had been living together before marriage

deaths:
Vera Oliver 1921 Oct 2002 York
Eric Oliver 1916 Jun 1998 York Yorkshire

matching this birth:

Births Dec 1916
Oliver Eric Wood Doncaster 9c 1472

I agree Kay, about son Eric, and also that the Darlington birth for Olive seems the most likely.

Kay????

Kay???? Report 8 Aug 2015 22:38

Probally the son was named after the father Eric......?

Olive M birth was possibly reg in 1921 in Darlington,,,,roughly 20 miles from Richmond.

I'm as confused as anybody else here :-)

first, this is the Melba who died in 1983

Melba Lilian Oliver 1925 Dec 1983 Colchester Essex

her name comes from this marriage

Marriages Dec 1950
Dimmock Melba L - Oliver Edmonton 5e 665
Oliver Frank - Dimmock Edmonton 5e 665

so that is the person living with Dimmock parents in Wood Green

Births Jun 1925
Dimmock Melba L - Sharp Edmonton 3a 770

her children would be Oliver/Dimmock ... and there was only one, in 1958 in Chelmsford in the late 1950s ... no indication they ever left that area

I just don't think these people are related at all ... I think the Eric Oliver / Olive Hamilton marriage seems likely

perhaps if Ann's mum's middle name was Melba she used that rather than be 'Olive Oliver'

also, the Middlesbro births are accounted for by a marriage there in 1951 between Sylvia H and John O so they do not seem to be siblings of Ann

so I think Angela is mistaken about Ann's father being Frank?

Angela can you say where you have Ann's parents' names from?

and as mentioned, the best advice is to get Ann's birth certificate to be sure of the names you are looking for

Kay????

Kay???? Report 8 Aug 2015 21:56

and of course Josephine,,,,,,,was Frank in the army,,,,,,as Richmond N Yorks covers Catterick,!!

Kay????

Kay???? Report 8 Aug 2015 21:52

Ann S,
Eric and David W were all registered in Thirsk,,,,,,North Yorkshire,,,,,,,which Thirsk is also the reg district for Kirby Wiske,

,seems the Melba Dimmock may have been a stepparent.

When did he leave the home? There are more Oliver/Hamilton births in Middlesboro in the 50s.

Wait! You have her listed as Melba Olive in your tree on here, so perhaps that marriage is the correct one?

How sure are you of the parent's names?

Marriages Mar 1941
Hamilton Olive M Oliver Richmond 9d 1439
Oliver Eric Hamilton Richmond 9d 1439

This is closer to Thirsk.
