that's very great news, Annie

I have to remember to check Ancestry trees!

Jesse certainly looked to me to be the prime candidate, and I'm glad that guess led to your ... daughter-in-law's sister's mother-in-law! ... finding her family.

Anotheranninglos Report 8 Jul 2015 13:17

Just to update you all who helped out on this. I had never met the person I was helping she is the mother in law of my daughter in laws sister.

I have just met a very happy lady who has now met up with her half brother Ted. Indeed her father did turn out to be Jessie Collins. Someone had read this message and linked it all up with a tree on ancestry.

Thankyou all again.

My friend has rang social services and they are going to send her a form out and they said the records would be with her within 48 hrs. So fingers crossed her fathers name is in there somewhere.

Annie ... that 192.com link was just to get the names and location

as I said, go to BT ONLINE and search for the surname in that location and you will get the actual address/telephone number!

okay here :-)

http://tinyurl.com/l9zhsju

the name on that list that matches the one at 192.com

I hope your friend will be very careful ... far better to try to get as much information / confirmation as possible before contacting people who may not know anything about the situation

you could hold back this info until it seems to be wise to pass it on :-)

Hello Cloonie,

Yes I clicked on your link and click on the blue box that says view details and it brings me to a login page. Never mind I will get my friend to pay.
Although as you said I dont think it would be a good idea as she may well just ring them.
I would personally write a letter rather then phoning .

She is ringing to see about her files on Monday, I told her she will have to wait months for them but she thinks it will be instant and she will have her fathers name on monday.

JoonieCloonie Report 9 May 2015 22:16

Annie ... did you click my tinyurl link? :-)

it goes directly to the basic details at 192.com

(the best way to search 192.com is to use google - for instance search for
"john x jones" 192.com
and if the name is not too common, it will come up with those individual records like at my link above, instead of searching at 192.com directly and getting lists with lots of unrelated names and not enough detail)

I did the link that way because the link itself contains the person's name, so I disguised it so as not to post the personal info directly.

The person and spouse and location are shown at that link, and then you can just look at BT online for the details

http://www.thephonebook.bt.com/publisha.content/en/search/residential/search.publisha#

you can track back from their marriage to get the names I was talking about (Jesse's second wife)

of course I'm not suggesting that your friend make a cold call, but once she's investigated more, if she thinks that is the right family, that is a way of contacting

Joonie,

If I register with 192.com have I to pay for credits to use and I can do 20 searches a day or is the 20 searches a day free. I have read the site f and q but can't understand it.

I am going to PM the people with trees on here and will have to wait until free weekend on ancestry.

Thankyou
Anne

one other thing possibly useful

Jesse's second wife was formerly married

there are no births with surname Collins and her surname

but there are two births to her first marriage, 1946 and 1947 Cirencester

one child is on the current electoral roll

http://tinyurl.com/q4ggbs9

and there is a telephone/address listing at BT on line

so that is Jesse's stepchild (he married their mother 20 years later but it appears the couple had been together for some time before the marriage)

Penny,
My friend has now given me a book that she rescued from her mother Dorothy Nelmes house clearence. The slips where it says recieved from it has Dorothy Nelmes doesnt say who it was paid too by says for (my friends name). My Friend was taken at 6 weeks to the church of england childrens society at swansea. Then fostered out at 6 mths. There are no more slips after that so I would think she was paying for her upkeep in the home.
Also there is a larger payment (one off) from J W Collins.
She was born in a unmarried mothers home in Cheltenham and stayed there until she was six weeks.
Cloonie,
Alot to take in I will go through it.
Many thanks
Anne

so I may have lighted on the right man then :-)

unfortunately the first of the two children of that marriage died in infancy, and the second seems to have as well (a death in Swansea 1949 aged 0, but there is no other birth to match that death)

JESSE 1917, mother Woodward, & likely siblings

EDWARD F 1915 Bridgend (note Jesse's child's name)
- possible marriages include 1940 Stroud - one birth 1942
- died in WWII

a person with the same name as the 1942 child of Edward has a Frederick Collins born 1921 Maesteg (Maisteg) in their tree at this site

Just a thought.
if this child was fostered, why did the father have to pay maintanance and to whom? seems a little unusual.

Shirley~I,m getting the hang of it Report 9 May 2015 15:55

It does seem none of the family married

Only marions birth shows too but she may still be alive but opted out of public electoral rolls

Certainly the way to go is getting the social services file BUT i too would get the brother Albert Reginald death cert to see who the informant was

Thankyou shirley for the 1911 census, and Gritty yes this is where her file would be the best way to go. As she has so very little to go on.

Hello Joonie,
I have now looked I was putting in JessiE and coming back with nothing that matched what you said.
I have found Jesse 2 marriages and 2 children from his 1st marriage.

When she was telling me about it she did say that she had the name Jesse in her head. Her foster mum must of told her.
