hi all..'ive got a dilemma. my family has been researching the jones family on and off for just over 30 years and we kept hitting brick walls ..mainly due to a lie on a marriage certificate. i'm wondering if i put the info i have on here whether people can make sense of it. The story behind this research is that my grandmother ruth ann james born 30th nov 1916 in bebbington was put into a childre4ns home in 1921 at the age of 5 and she always wondered whether she had any brothers or sisters. she is now deceased and i have carried on the search. her mother was ruth jones born 03/04/1895 and married ernest james in sep 1916 in birkenhead. on the marriage certificate she has put her name as ruth annie jones..but she was just ruth jones. also they put their address as 324 chester street birkenhead and it is a false address as chester street never went that high up in numbers ( i checked this out at liverpool libraray through the street directories. also she said her dads occupation had been a merchant sea captain but he wasn't he was a glass maker/blower. i've followed ernest and ruth on the census information .
as far as we knew that was her first marriage and we got the marriage certificate from birkenhead town hall..they helped us search to find it so it must be the right marriage
in 2002 my aunt asked liverpool council to help locate my grandmothers mum's birth certificate and they did so that is how i know her date of birth
now when i put her date of birth on ancestry and did death results it came up with ruth lyon death 1977 knowsley. so i looked at peoples trees and i came across a marriage for ruth jones in 1915 to henry latham lyon...now that sounds like my ruth..all info on it correct and the address was nutgrove which would be right as that was where henry lived in the 1911 census. it looks like they had a child called richard lyon in 1915 ..think his date of birth is 29/11/1915..
this would make him my nan's half brother so i am after locating his family.
but ruth married ernest james only a year later ..and also why would ruth die as ruth lyon and not ruth james...im feeling very confused.

Maybe the second marrige was bigamous if it's the same lady and she married in 1915 to Henry Lyon

Have you found what happened to Henry ??

It looks like it's two different Ruth Jones 's

The info on Henry above is correct to my knowledge . The death of Ruth Lyon was 1977 Knowsley which is in the right area as its part of Prescot . The Ruth Lyon that died in Prescot had the exact date off Birth as my Ruth Jones 03-04-1895.
The informant on the death certificate is their son Richard Lyon

That should say the Ruth Lyon that died in Knowsley had the exact date . And her address at that time was in St helens, Prescot

Also what I should Say is the death certificate of Ruth Lyon confirmed that she was the widow of Henry Latham Lyon . I just can't understand why she wasn't Ruth James . Could anyone find a possible marriage for richard Lyon born nov 1915 Prescot . I researched a marriage for him to lily mercer but seems it's the wrong one as that Richard was born 1919. I don't know where to search next

The woman's maiden name should be on the 1974 cert

Why aren't you happy . Have I done something wrong ? The woman's maiden name is on the 1977 death certificate for Ruth Lyon and her maiden name is Jones and says she's the widow of Henry Latham Lyon .

You have some very common surnames here. Sounds like they found the incorrect birth cert.

Can you list the details and ages from the 1916 marriage? What was her father's name and who were the witnesses?

What are the details on your grandmother's birth cert? Does it list Ruth and Ernest and what is Ernest's occupation?

Says mother Annie Ruth James nee Jones and father Ernest james . His occupation said labourer and address was 32 new ferry rd birkenhead . That was on my grandmothers birth certificate
On the marriage certificate it says Ernest James age 25 . Father Edward James deceased occupation upholsterer .
Annie Ruth Jones 21 . Father john Jones deceased . Occupation merchant service captain and their address didn't exist .

Sorry that first line should say Ruth Annie james nee Jones

Also the witnesses were peter and Elizabeth briscoe . I don't know what connection these people were

Why do you think that Ruth Jones who married LYON in Lancashire is the same person as Ruth A Jones who married in Cheshire only a year later?

I honestly can't see any logic in it at all, especially as there were probable births for Lyon/Jones in later years
