FreeBMD is missing many births in that period:

Perhaps you could try the nearest library in Middleton and look at old electoral rolls for Appleby Road. This will give you the correct surname, perhaps a middle initial and her parents.

He cannot remember when, in a 4 year time-slot, the girl was born?

If he is 76 now, born 1938, so 22 to 26.

Did he ever see the baby, or acknowledge that he was the father, or pay any money for her upkeep?

If you look on free bmd, following Rose's guidance, perhaps the names will mean something to him (if he knew the baby's name).

There is one birth for a Robson child to Robson mother in Durham W which includes Middleton between 1960 /64 ( can be found on freebmd.org.uk by putting in Robson with mmn Robson) but there appear to be two sons also in subsequent year so probably not her

One Robinson/Robinson daughter born in those years in that area...but of course mother could have been living elsewhere for the birth and assuming she was not married.

Trying to locate Mary Robinson who lived in Appleby road, middleton ,teesdale ,durham. Her father owned a quarry in the area and Mary worked in a bakery in the village. This would have been in the 1960's ,think Mary gave birth to a daughter in 1960-1964. Would welcome any information thanks.
