Hi,

Lee's mother was living with her mother at the time of her pregnancy, John did visit them...although you cant rule anything out, i wouldnt think she was married.

Who is to say that Lee's mother wasn't married? the reason she perhaps didn't want contact/maintainance was she was married, and perhaps passed Lee off as her husbands?

Just something to think about

Thank you for the advice, i again did think of ths too. I shall do this and i hope that she did tell him about his dad but after doing my family tree there are so many suprises!
I think he did tell his daughters mother (my mother in law) but she cannot remember the name...it was so many years ago now and John died in 1999 and didnt have much contact with his own family so they dont know much else either.
Thank you again for your advice

Thank-you for your response.

I think that most of us would advise utmost caution in this situation.

If John was fighting for contact then did he tell a family member of the full names of mother and child?

If the child was never told of his father's name, or believed that someone else was his father, then you risk severe damage between mother and son if he learns from you.

Make sure that John Popperwell is in your tree on here, and always notify genes of your current email address, so that if the son knows and comes looking for his father he can contact you.

Hi, Thank you for your reply. The only evidence i will have is if there is someone called Lee who knows he has a father called John and is looking for him. Even if i get the birth certificates no one would know which one it would be, the address may help but it wouldnt be set in stone. I know that he did fight for contact and was told no, he offered child support and this was declined and there is no doubt that he knew that the boy was his son, there was an incident of him bumping into him when he was about 5 and he mentioned then that he was a few years older than his daughter this is how we worked out the date range of Lee's birth. I know it is a needle in a haystack - i have done my own family tree and that is why i have been asked to do what i can to try and find some information, but i am actually banging my head against a brick wall unless anyone can suggest anything else that i can do to help with my search??

If the father is not acknowledged on the birth certificate, and you do not know the name of the child or the year of birth, what evidence have you got that he is the father?

Hi,
I am searching for my sister in laws half brother. The only information i have is that he was born around 1972-1975 in Hackney, his name was Lee and his mother wanted nothing to do with his father. After looking to see if he was registered with his fathers name i came up with nothing, so i looked for all boys registered in the name of Lee in Hackney between 1972-1975 and registered with the mothers maiden name and i have 7 possibilities. The only other informationi have is that he would have lived around the Cassland road area. His father has passed now and all the information i have is in this post but he has two half sisters that are desperate to get in touch with him. I hope someone is looking for a father called John Popperwell and comes across this post. :-)
