I'm looking for any descendants of Henry Charles Bartlett b.1897 in Wandsworth. I know he went to Canada as a boy farmer about 1910. I have found him on the 1910 census for Canada as a domestic. I've also found his enlisting papers for the first world war and it has his mothers name, Edith Bartlett and their address in Mansion Parade Wandsworth. On these papers he has changed his year of birth and put 1896, it's possible to see that he changed the 7 to a 6. He puts his date of birth as 2 Apr 1896.
I've also found his as a soldier travelling to Winnipeg, I've found a possible match on the 1930 and 1940 census for USA but it states that he was born in Michigan. I also found that he applied for citizenship in Michigan so I do think it's the right person that I'm following. On both of these census he is a soldier. Lastly, I have found a death for Henry C Bartlett in Honolulu with the correct date of birth.
I would like to be certain that he is the correct person that I'm looking for and find any descendants but I don't know where to go for help. I'm hoping that somebody would know where I can go from here.
Thanks for reading this, I know it's a little long but I need to put down all the information that I have found.

Why would he have lied about his yob on the naturalisation papers??
U.S. Naturalization Records Indexes, 1794-1995 about Henry Bartlett Name: Henry Bartlett Birth Date: 2 Apr 1898 <<< State: Michigan Locality, Court: Detroit, District Court
I'm not convinced its 'your' Henry as there is no mention of a middle name - the records either side do have them.

Detective and Richochet, thank you for taking the time to look at this. I stayed on a couple of hours last night after I posted and I've just got home from work so that's why there isn't any reply from me.
Detective - you have got the correct census that I've found. I also found this that makes me think it's the right one.
Name: Henry C Bartlett Arrival Date: Oct 1923 Port of Arrival: Detroit, Michigan, USA Residence Country: Canada Age: 26 Birth Date: abt 1897 Birth Country: England Gender: Male Race/Nationality: English Record Type: Manifests Line Number: 18
On this one he is a soldier, as on the other ones that I've found.
++
Maybe the Naturalization one isn't him because of the difference in date of birth. Was he perhaps not old enough at that time to become a us citizen?
+++
Richochet, he enlisted in Canada and the information was almost correct except the year of birth. I've also put that up here and you can definitely see that he has for some reason changed his year of birth.
Name: Henry Chas Bartlett Birth Date: 2 Apr 1896 Birth Location: Wandsworth, (england) Relative: Edith Bartlett Relationship: Mother Regiment Number: 12550
I think I put he was born in Wandsworth because of this but you are right he was born in Kingston and his full name was Henry Charles Percival Bartlett.
This is also the passenger list which I think he was on. I think he might have been in Fegans home for boys because that is where I found him on the list, if it's the right one!
Name: Henry Bartlett Gender: Male Age: 15 Estimated birth year: abt 1895 Date of Arrival: 15 Apr 1910 Vessel: Empress of Ireland Search Ship Database: View the 'Empress of Ireland' in the 'Passenger Ships and Images' database Port of Arrival: St John, New Brunswick Port of Departure: Liverpool, England Roll: T-4822
Again, the year of birth is not correct but I do know that he went to Canada because his mother and siblings went to Canada at a later date after his father died and on the immigration paper it says to go and live with son.
++
Last thing is that I can't get the death certificate because they told me I need to send all the information to prove I am related. This means his parents marriage certificate which I have been unable to find, even with lots of help from the kind people on here. I really don't know how I can confirm it's the right one without the death certificate.
Thanks again to you both for your replies.

I think you are right about him not being free to marry Edith. He actually married Annie Gill in 1879 and had a son but they are not living together on the 1881 census.
It's only that on the 1911 census they state they've been married from 24 years but I think they never married.

Re the death certificate. Would they accept his BC and assuming your direct line is a full sibling, their BC and documents down to you?
They must realise that an unmarried (to each other) couple can have children together?

If Henry had been a Home boy and sent to Canada he may have been unhappy as lots were not treated very well. So maybe he altered his birth date to make himself old enough to join the Army ?? Maybe that also accounts for differences on census too - trying to hide from being recalled to Canadian employer?

Richochet, the marriage is correct between Edward and Annie Gill. I found it on the parish records and the address matches the 1881 census. I have found a death for Annie Bartlett that could be the right one, she died in 1886 and so Edward would be free to marry again and according to 1911 census he and Edith had been married for 24 years which would be 1887.
Edward would be my great grandfather, his daughter Dorothy being my grandmother.
I have Annie and her son Edward H on the 1881 census, it does say she is a wife but I don't think that I could find her on the 1891 census and by then Edward is with Edith. It does look as though Annie and Edwards son died.
I phoned the Punchbowl cemetery in Honolulu last night and they couldn't tell me anymore than I already knew. They said the funeral directors might know more but I couldn't get through the them. I will try again tonight.
++
Autumnleaves, thanks for that bit of information. Maybe you could be right, it's something to think about.
Thanks
