Find Living Relatives

Not sure if I should be doing this or not but in the 40's I knew someone who had to give her baby up for adoption. The baby surname was Belcher. I do know her first name but don't want to add it to here.
The mother took me to say goodbye to her baby and swore me to secrecy. It would be aprox. 1947-9. I am only telling this now because the mother is no longer alive, but I wanted the baby to know that her mother did love her and wasn't happy about letting her go.
I hope the baby, now grown has been very happy and perhaps has been able to contact other family.

Have you tried putting the child's birth name in search trees to see if anyone has her listed .

it's possible that she or maybe her children have put a tree on the site

You could also add the child and the mother to your tree, even if not related - OK technically it mucks up your family, but making contact with her is what counts.

Find the original birth reg (England and Wales) on http://www.freebmd.org.uk/cgi/search.pl

Then add a 'post'em' note - if you created a free email account on say hotmail or gmail, you could include that in your brief message.
Adoptees often go looking for their birth parents - add a Post'em to any Freereg transcribed records which pertain to the mother.

I could try that but when she was adopted she would have had a different name.

But many adopted children do know their birth names so may have added themselves here under that name

As you know the birth name take a look under search trees

I have put in the name on Genes and there isn't one. She was born in Leicester. I just thought that if she used Genes she might see the message and know that she was loved.

If the mother were unmarried, the only birth that fits with your description was in 1945.

If you don't add her first name to the thread it is doubtful she would ever see it, unless she wants to go through every thread on this site which mentions the name Belcher

These threads can be found by googling so would also be more easily found.
