Hi Margee and Joonie, Yes Thomas was Maud's father and was listed as a violinist (deceased) when she married A Crichton in 1915. Her mother Emily A married a William Daffern so I take it that Thomas had died by 1907?

heh heh, sorry, Cameron, I was talking about Margee's great-grandfather in her picture there. But your man was a Thomas too.

And Maude's mother married a Daffern. Well there we are, I think. If only we had known!

William Daffern was Maude's stepfather in 1901. Her mother, if we interpret it correctly, was Emily A Daffern -- so Emily had already married William.

In 1891, Maude and mother Emily A Beecham were both in the Daffern household. Sorry I missed the mother the first time around! Emily is shown as housekeeper. An arrangement that often covered a multitude of sins, to use an expression and not cast aspersions! Emily was shown as married, William as widowed.

William Daffern and Emily Ann Beacham married in 1894 in Skipton reg dist.

I think Thomas Beacham, and Emily's marital status, may have been mythical.

I see no marriage for them or death for him.

A Thomas Beecham aged 64 did die in Mar quarter 1891 in Dewsbury but unless Emily had not heard, she would not have been 'married' in 1891.

Only Maud's birth cert will say for sure

if it doesn't work I don't know the answer!

found them in 1881

but not a violinist :-)

Emily aged well. She was 42 in 1881 and then 30 years later in 1911 she was 52.

But still no marriage. It looks like maybe Thomas was previously married and only 3 yr old Thos in the family was Emily's.

So Thomas did not need to die, for Emily to marry.

Sorry Joonie this can't be Maud's parents, Emily married a William Daffern in around 1806/7? see 1891 and 1901 census'

There is no other Emily Ann Beacham to go around, let alone one with husband Thomas. Yes of course that is her.

just because she was using the name Beacham doesn't mean she was actually married. Probably Thomas was already married when they met. Very likely he was the Thomas Beecham who died in early 1891.

In 1891 Emily's name was Beacham and it said she was married ... not to William Daffern or she would have been Emily Daffern. She was his 'housekeeper'. Maybe she did become William's housekeeper after Thomas died, to support herself and Maud.

In 1881, William Daffern was married to Elizabeth and living in Selston Nottinghamshire. Elizabeth was 33.

Elizabeth Daffern aged 42 died in Hinckley reg dist in the last quarter of 1890.

So it looks like Emily and William came together after they were both widowed with young children. It seems she did probably start as his housekeeper and they married 3 years later.

Siblings of Maud, in this thread? I don't think so, no.

I guess if you want to contact the descendants you are after you will try contacting the people noted earlier who have Maud or Maude BEECHAM born 1888 in their trees ... one of whom is a direct descendant of Jonas and the other of whom is related to Maud's stepfather ...

think you're being a little harsh here JC - Cameron has always been extremely polite in his requests and expressed his gratitude for everything that has been found - many members are not so polite and the last thing any of us should do is "put off" members doing research :-)

Beg pardon, I think I have been very helpful. I would not want Cameron to dismiss the facts based on a preconception or failure to follow them thoroughly, and that is what I have been offering ... the actual facts ... which are 'noted' now ... Please don't chide.

The thing is that I've found two related people who are members here at this site (by finding that Maud was also called BeEcham), in particular the direct descendant of Jonas and Maud (I traced the member's lineage and he is certainly that) ... which is what Cameron started out looking for here. :-)

I simply looked for the names of Maud's siblings in this thread and didn't find them, but that doesn't matter since I found her descendant ... who hopefully still receives messsages through this site.
