(Sticks, my point wasn't that you shouldn't contact them, it was that the personal info of living people who may not even be related to your inquiry in any way should probably not be posted up here where it is visible to the world and their brother. :-) I simply would not want my parents' marriage info and my name and family info posted on the internet without me knowing or agreeing, and I think most of us would feel the same way, that's why it's best to send people information like that privately. I just keep seeing a lot of that being done here and I am more used to family history websites that have stricter rules about privacy protection I guess........) |

As far has I am aware;fairly sure ,Mother did not divorce. Think father may have done so after the then statutory 7yr wait but evidence anecdotal so that makes any divorce at least 1954, roughly. The 1947 figure is when Mother parted company with father. |

Fair point that the Wedgewood family would perhaps not welcome intrusion from a stranger but they seem to be the only link to my father at the moment. John Gilbert may only have been a good friend but his family may know about my fathers history.Whether or not he remarried, had more children ? |

Have you considered the marriage in 1948 in Manchester? You can find the spouse's name by searching for the marriage at freebmd |

John Gilbert Wedgewood died in 2006 but I don't see a death for his wife and I would expect his children are still living so I wonder about the propriety of posting their personal information here when they are probably unrelated in any event and are not aware they and their family are being discussed on the internet .............. |

Don't think that marriage valid.Barbara Evelyn would have been alive when father died so I am thinking she would have been the informant .Am I wrong? |

According to lancashirebmd that marriage was at Rochdale, The good shepherd, between Jack Holroyd and Barbara Eveline Henderson. This would look like her death: |

Thanks for mail, will pursue the wedgewood link .Getting a little closer! The local archives I refer to are in Caernarfon,N.Wales so not got anything in there for Oldham,M./C. I don't think. No written material any way. |

I guess you're local, as you've referred to the archives. A visit to check out your fathers address on the electoral rolls should show if there was anyone else of voting age living there - could be worth checking? |

Not sure how you go about China research, but the census is easily explained. The enumerator would have crossed out anything that shouldn't have been written - My gt aunt had put all her family on the census - next to husband and one son she'd written "working in Canada" so they were crossed off the form. The 1911 images can be a really useful source of extra info! |
