Have you got the actual marriage certificates for any of the marriages that you are sure of?
They should give you extra information on the husbands.

Click on "Search" at the top of the page, then on Search all Members trees. There are 4500 results for the surname Short. Input the details of the person you are looking for, and if there are any matches show up then, you can try contacting the tree owner.

Matthew and Jane Elwood who had my great great grandfather Francis Edward Elwood baptised in 1807 at Horsham Sussex. There is no sign of Matthew or Jane from this date and my great great grandfather was brought up as Francis Edward Elwood MITCHELL
