Pleased that you have made contact with Vanessa, but so sad about her loss of contact with her Father.
Hope your search leads to a successful outcome.

You could alter your title to include 'Australia' which might attract extra help?

I asked the Salvation Army here in Australia to find my Nephew Clifford Beard b1951 last November (2013) and they have found out that he had died on 24th May 2003 in Robina, Gold Coast of Australia. Apart from being saddened by this it has given me closure. I have informed his ex-wife and daughter who went back to the UK about 1981 and hope that in time they will give me permission to send for his death certificate as I am not the next of kin. It has taken me a long time for this information. I live on the opposite of the country in Western Australia. I don't think that there is a way around obtaining the certificate otherwise. His ex-wife and daughter have not had contact with him for about 20 years, so I do hope that they will give me permission.
Thanks to all those on G.R for their past help.....Valerie

A bitter sweet ending, but at least as you say you have closure. Thank you for taking the time to let us know.

Valerie Report 23 May 2014 06:26

I thought perhaps I could call once again to ask if there is somebody living in Queensland especially near Robina in the Gold Coast area who may of known my nephew Clifford C.J Beard who died in 24th May 2003 in Robina.

All I would like to know is if that person could tell me where Clifford was laid to rest and what Cemetary he is in as I have tried everything even tracing the local Funeral Parlours (a fruitless task) they wouldn't be able to let me know even if they conducted the service because of the Privacy Act.

As I am unalble to get permission from his daughter in the U.K for his death certificate and after trying absolutely all that I can to find his funeral notice in the local papers, (they don't keep any archives) I thought I would send this thread.
Thank you in anticipation.....Valerie from Western Australia.

They have a community notice board & newspapers
as you have his DOD they may have newspaper archives
OR ask if they would put a notice on the board.

Valerie, I'm sorry your search had a sad outcome but I'm curious to know why you need permission from the family to apply for the death certificate? Is this an Australian ruling?

patchem Report 1 Jun 2014 11:51

Island,

These appear to be the rules for deaths less than 30 years ago:

Thanks patchem but the link is taking too long to open.

I was hoping Valerie might give a yay or nay answer.

I only asked because I had no problem with acquiring the death certificate (+birth and marriage) of a distant relative who died in 2004. No permission from next of kin or proof of relationship needed. All UK which is why I asked Valerie if the rules were different in Australia.
Also, I don't know if Valerie thinks she needs permission but may not.

ArgyllGran Report 1 Jun 2014 15:03

There's no mention of Clifford on this website::

http://austcemindex.com/index.php?surname=beard

According to an online map, Mudgeeraba would be the nearest cemetery to Robina.
List of Gold Coast Cemeteries here:
http://www.goldcoast.qld.gov.au/community/cemeteries-by-suburb-356.html

He may have been cremated rather than buried, Valerie.
If he was cremated, this looks like the nearest crematorium:
http://www.allambe.com.au/driver.asp

As a crematorium, Allambe does not feature on the Australian Cemeteries Index (link above).
You said you've tried contacting funeral parlours - have you tried cemeteries and crematoria?

Hello Island and Patchem.
Sorry, I haven't been on the site for a while and have just seen both your replies. Thanks.
Yes, I live in Western Australia and I know it is the same for Queensland unfortunately you have to have the next of kin's permission to send for the death certificate or wait for 30 years from the date of death. I don't think it will be possible as I am 70 now (but who knows!). I will still pursue my search by looking into some of the websites that ArgyllGran has given me and possibly try some crematoria as suggested.
So many thanks all round....Valerie

Hi ArgyllGran,

I tried the Allambe Crematorium and a very nice lady emailed me straight back,
she told me that Clifford was cremated there on 29th May 2003- 5 days after he died but not interred their, his ashes were taken away so it may be he did have someone in his life. From here on I will be putting a notice in the local paper, who knows perhaps I may even find them as well.
All the best....Valerie

Geoffrey Report 19 Oct 2014 18:23

Valerie

I am Geoff Peters, Clfford's first cousin. My father Ronald Peters was Clfford's mother's brother.

I found out from this that Clifford died in 2003. It saddened me that he had died so young as I too had lost contact with him.

I knew that he was living on the Gold Coast. He moved there after Clifford Jnr was born in about 1983. Soon after his marriage broke up and Anna moved back to the UK with the children. Before this he was living in Dapto NSW where my family also lived, I now live in Canberra.

I remember when uncle Len and aunt Doris visited us a number of times in the 1970's he also visited a relative who lived in Penrith NSW. Are you that person?

I was close to Clifford during the years he lived in Dapto and could, if you wish give you quite a bit of information about this time. Please reply if you do.

Kind regards Geoff Peters

Geoff,

Just in case Valerie is not reading these boards every day (or even every week) I suggest you click on her name and send her a message.

Genes will notify her of your message (or should do if their system is working correctly), they do not notify people that there are new postings on the boards.

Also,
Welcome to the site, Geoff.
