Well done Grannie Annie of 15 and Kay??

I think Patricia you may wish to check on this information as it does seem that your 'nan' may have been connected in some way.

It is unusual for someone to keep a child as their own without knowing anything about the family and support would be important. It would ot have been easy for nan.

Suggest you check this information.

The woman who I called nan had grand children older then me , i new most of her family. Many of them not happy with her taking me in, thinking any thing she had { not much at all }should be for her own grand children. As a much younger woman she took in a young boy, who's mother had died and dad could not cope. I wondered if mother new of this and used it for her own advantage.

Was the child that was born 2 years before you a girl or boy? I have found a baby in 1946 Sullivan and mothers name Sullivan very near Waterford. Not knowing Ireland very well.

Been trying to trace some of your suggestions, very hard when your not good on the computor. one very interesting item, Margaret M Sullivan. born July 1946. Clonmel, Waterford. Mothers name Sullivan, not been able to find her first name or any other details. Not sure where to go now.

If you believe that Margaret M Sullivan is the older sister you could apply for her birth certificate for more information.

Hi Patricia,

Kay???? gave you some Sullivan marriages with names connected to your Shepherd name - have you been able to follow those up.

Some questions on here - any chance you could come back with some pointers.

Thanks,

Sappho. Thank you for help, need all i can get. Both the 1949, 1951 could be her after she left me. 1948 not the same Shepherd. Feeling very edgy about Margaret M Sullivan. July 1946. in Clonmel. Her mother's maiden name Sullivan. I have tried on and off since i was eleven to find out , i don't believe she would know about me. I gave up my last search a couple of years a go, because it made me ill.

Patricia,

Stick with it or it will never be solved and will haunt you.

So go with Margaret if you think this is a connection. It is how you handle any communication coming forward. If Margaret M Sullivan seems to be a lead do you have any way of tracing this person as she does not know about you. Have you looked at search trees for such a named person? She may be looking for you!

Don't get ill with worry - you have made it this far so stick with it. Helpers here will be looking to you for guidance to help you. Whatever you do - do not give up as it is not good to come back again as helpers will then have to start again from the beginning.

We need your help to help you.

Good luck,

Sappho

Thank you. not sure where to go from here, some one suggested looking for Margaret's birth certificate. How much information do i need to look? I think the 2 marriages in London.1949 and 1951 seem worth following. Never got as far as this before.

I'm not as experienced as most helpers on here so advice where to go for the birth certificate may need to come from someone familiar with Irish Birth Certs, but I do think this would be a good idea.

For the marriages go:http://www.freebmd.org.uk/cgi/search.pl

as suggested by patchem above. Look also at her comments on the marriages again worth following up. These are leads that need to followed to be eliminated or investigating further.

It's a slow slog I know, but bit by bit you can find out what is relevant and what is not.

Keep at it.

As Margaret M Sullivan is such a common name not just in Ireland but world wide,,,,,,its a needle in a haystack,,,,,,

Perhaps a little nearer to home story would give some leads,

If Patricia would like to do a one to one via message with somone to give some facts what shes got from the authorities,,,,some things are just not adding up ,as back in her babyhood to abandoned a baby was a criminal act and no Welfare(as it was then) would have returned a child to its mother for her then to repeat the process.

And for no officals to be involved till aged 11,would not have been possible.school records, doctors medical records, would have all needed some guardianship..and as it appears *Nan* had not been appointed that status by the authorities,,,,,

Plus how did Nan register the birth using her own maiden surname,?what addressses did she use,,,did *Nan* have a husband.or other children of her own.?

all these details help build up a better pitcure as to what may have happened ,as what Patricia was told by *Nan*I'm sure isnt 100% spot on.and a little search into Nans background may reveal something.?

As with the little information Patricia has given its like chashing a dogs tail and not getting her anywhere.

Hosiptal records,,,,,,info can be got under the Freedom act if they contain details about you.closed hosptials records are archived and London Metropolitian Archives hold lists.
