Having reread this thread the immediate advice was for Denise to buy some certificates, which she appeared unwilling to do.

The 1911 Census in Ireland isn't him. Herbert John's dad was called Herbert George. It's on Herbert and Janet's marriage certificate.

Possibly if you contact Brighton Library/Archive, they may have trade directories including lists of hotels - there is frequently a 'reverse' index for adult (over 21) surnames.

if you can't go there yourself, there will probably be a charge.

If she had remarried she would not have died as Kelly as for other children that would be difficult not knowing where they were born or whether they had the fathers name or her married name or even just in her maiden name.

Not sure how you would find out which Hotel they lived in....I used to live in Brighton and would imagine there were quite a few hotels then, as there are now

No one can tell that without seeing the marriage cert, but the birth in 1913 matches the death in 1982 so looks likely

is this her death?

And any idea if Janet had any other children before or after she had Patricia and Sheila, or was there any other marriages for Janet ?
Janet died in Hartlepool I know that.

I will always wonder if he had any other children after he was divorced from Janet after approximately 1941 ? onwards -
Maybe his new family never ever knew about Sheila and Patricia - which is such a shame, and Sheila and Patricia don't have a lot of information to go on either.
It would be nice to have known about any other siblings or someone who knew them to have some more information for us.
As we dont know Herberts parents names it makes it even harder

A marriage cert would give his age and fathers name and if that is them a death cert poss Molly's maybe registered by a relative

I would love to find his family or a photograph of Herbert and as much information as possible....... for his 2 daughters that he lost touch with when they were only very young (Patricia born 1936 and Sheila born 1937) .....these are the children that were from his marriage to Janet.

If she was born 1913 she would have been 43 when they married...carter may have been a previous married name

Irish ? I don't know if he was irish, but I think he was an only child. His parents had an hotel in brighton about 1936.
