Agree with Jane, do not be fobbed off - I was told my files had been destroyed in a fire - only to find when I re-applied 4 years ago not only did they still exist, but they even had original letters from my birth mother.

Firstly have you applied through the official channels and been told this? If not do so using the form on the link I provided.

Secondly, if you have already applied through official channels, hit the local authority and local court (both where your adoption took place) with a "subject access request", they have no choice but to provide you with anything and everything which names you.

EDIT: You can do a subject access request by letter - no form needed, but make sure you state what it is.

Don't give up & good luck!

Sharon I would continue with your search for records - quite often they have been kept separately by different agencies dealing with adoptions and also the court where the adoption was finalised should hold a record - there should be some paper trail in existence still - don't be fobbed off ! good luck

Sharon, you really need to apply for your adoption file - it should have more information for you to check out. They will also provide you with a copy of your original birth certificate for free, which should show an address for your mother.

Get the application form on here - it's a free service:

https://www.gov.uk/adoption-records

Download the form "application to access birth records, England & Wales"

Don't start looking around without the informion you need, the name is not that uncommon and you may end up upsetting some innocent people.

Good luck from one who's been there!

It does look a good match, i just don't really know what to do with it from here, tho my adoptive mother has said that my birth mother had to leave home because her father was furious, and go and live with some friends until i was born. Apparently i had a twin brother who died at birth. I've been told that when your a twin there is a time on your original birth certificate. Dont know if thats true. thanx for your post.
