Thank you to everyone who has helped me this week! I sent a letter to James and he phoned me today. Apparently Vanslow died 3 years ago. Vanslow was my half brother, Christopher's, father. Criss never new him. He had a very troubled life, suffered from schizophrenia and later in life used drugs to self medicate.. He died on 5th January this year, aged 45, from an accidental overdose, almost exactly 2 years after our younger brother died, leaving behind a teenage son who he was very close to. I would have liked to meet his father and siblings, out of curiosity mainly. I will keep looking for his siblings. I now know his younger sister is called Kelly and lives in Southsea, so perhaps I might find her. Once again, thank you!

I got someone to check findmypast and he isn't on an electoral roll. They also checked and he didn't die before 2006. Totally stuck now and feeling quite emotional. Salvation Army won't help because he's not a blood relative of mine!

I am a bit reluctant to write to jimmy because my mum thinks they couldn't read or write. I can't find a phone number for him though. 192 is obviously completely inaccurate because according to them he hasn't been on a electoral roll since 2002!

Ok the wedding in 1984 was def him. My mum has remembered another name. She thinks he either married a Sharon or him and his new wife had a daughter called Sharon. Either way they had a daughter who would have been born say between 1983 and 1986. I was all set for driving from northamptonshire to Middlesex today, but my mum isn't keen :-(. Think she just wants to find Vanslow.

I've found Jimmy/James! Rang council to check electoral roll and he still lives at 7 beards road!!

What else can you see about that marriage as I haven't paid on ancestry.

That all sounds possible! Getting closer. I just really hope he hasn't died. My mum seems to think jimmy or James had some mental health issues, so he is probably in an institution or home now.

There's a marriage in 1984 for a Vanny E Lawrence to a Richardson.

Lila her husband and brother James were living at the Beards road address up until 2003 but I think Lila died in 2004 not sure what happened to james and her husband after that

This is so frustrating! I'm pretty sure Vanslow would have married again as his first marriage had def broken down by 1967. He seems to have just vanished after his children were born.

The elecoral roll on ancestry only goes up to 1965

I dont know about whether you have FB on your phone would make any difference...they changed it so non friends come up in the "other" folder when you click on the icon for messages it says inbox and other

My mum was pretty sure that he was born on 14th Feb, it's the year bit she wasn't so certain of but guessed at 1935. I wondered if he may have been using his middle name, which was Edward?
