I think this is the David from above marriage, in 1841 (all born Yorkshire): |

I can only see 1 marriage for David/Elizabeth on Freebmd. This is the parish entry but I'm not convinced it is correct - his occupation is wrong, but I can't find the couple on the 1851 census to double check. |

Reggie has already posted the details of Annie Elizabeth - married to Joshua Gaunt, and tied back to the census. Unfortunately not in the parish records to double check though. |

There is a death for Ellen in 1861 (no ages on BMD back then), but there is this burial, which I think has been mis-transcribed to give her age as 3 - the image looks more like 3 months to me: |

If David married to Emma was John's father.............he was a bigamist, and in two places at once when the 1861 and 1871 censuses were taken |

Hello all respondents and thank you for your interest and help !!! David Birkhead (1824) had 3 other siblings anne (1806) Charlotte and John (1816) His parents were John Birkhead (1776-1846) and mary marsh Born in Penistown in 1785? David married Emma Howe in 1858 there was an Ann born in !852 I had a genaeologist do some work for me and he sent me these results He thought that Ann could have been from a previous marriage. The other siblings were John( my g-grandfather ) 1864 Emma 1858 and William 1862. I am certain of these facts . It looks like the Ann in my tree married Joshua Gaunt I know that David died in 1879 . It looks like Emma Birkhead (wife of David) remarried .. James Marchant he is described as a widower in 1881 so Emma must have died in the interval between 1879 -1881 . This really muuddies the water!!!! Also I have a Hannah Taylor listed as Mary Birkheads' ( widow of John Birkhead died 1846) grand-daughter (1851 census) so I do not know how she fits in . Ann is not listed at the home in Hunslet Lane Hainsworth Yard Leeds in this census. Alan |
