I'll send you the address of the Maureen E Bowles so that you can write to her. Please use your discretion as there may be no connection.

I can't see the E W Baker to Bowles marriage - what year do you have for that?

Jane

Jane Report 7 Jul 2017 20:30

That was either the year before or the year after the Maureen E Baker marriage, and it was a Frederick Bowles that was marrying an E W Bowles

ArgyllGran

ArgyllGran Report 8 Jul 2017 13:07

There's a marriage of a Frederick G W Bowles to an Agnes Bowles in Hendon in 1971.
Is that the one you mean? The initials are Frederick's , not his wife's.

(First you said his wife was Baker, then you said she was Bowles - which is correct?)

EDIT:

Oh, I see.
You mean this one ? :

Marriages Jun 1963 (>99%)
BAKER MAUREEN E BOWLES BRIGHTON 5H 190
BOWLES FREDERICK E W BAKER BRIGHTON 5H 190

Again, the initials E W are Frederick's not his wife's. Her middle initial is E.

That's the marriage already mentioned by DetEcTive.

ArgyllGran Report 8 Jul 2017 13:17

I'm assuming you're looking up these marriages on FreeBMD, but may not know how it works.

When you see the entry:

Marriages Jun 1963 (>99%)
BOWLES FREDERICK E W BAKER BRIGHTON 5H 190

if you click on the number at the end (in this case 190), it will show you the full name of the other spouse, as in my post above.

If I'm following at all, the first marriage of a possible Maureen was in 1960.

At that time, a divorced woman usually remarried under her first married surname, I think - or else the record will show both her birth surname and her married surname.

So I think it's unlikely that a Maureen Baker marriage after the 1960 marriage would be the same person.

Jane, we have no way of knowing whether all these things you have been told by someone are likely to be correct or not.

someone at this site? at another site? someone who knows the people?

The info could be just guesses, and could be guesses by someone who is not experienced at research and is getting it wrong, for all we know.

JoonieCloonie Report 9 Jul 2017 03:16

has it been noted that there are two Barnes-Baker births in Brighton, 1960 and 1962?

One child married in Brighton and probably again in Lewes, and there seem to be births to both marriages.

Children from both of that child's marriages are with the couple on the electoral roll to 2016. I don't see a telephone listing for the couple or any of the three children.

Jane

Jane Report 9 Jul 2017 16:41

I think one of the marriages (Dainty was 1960, so it may have only been one marriage, if it was the 1060 marriage to some named Barnes, it could be the one showing on the electoral roll

JoonieCloonie

JoonieCloonie Report 9 Jul 2017 17:25

Jane, I have not the least idea what you are talking about.

Detective has said that the Dainty marriage was in 1963 (actually registered 1964).

You can't 'think' something (that the Dainty marriage was 1960) that simply is not so!

Detective then showed that the 1939 register (which was kept up to date by recording women's marriages, and married names, after 1939) showed only that one marriage for that Maureen.

Have you told us all you know about the Maureen you are looking for?

Do you know what year she was born? If so, will you tell us?
Do you know the name of your dad's first wife? If so, will you tell us?
Can you tell us your dad's name at least?
(Your dad and his first wife are deceased so there is no harm in telling us.)

If we know your dad's name, we could maybe find his first marriage (if you don't know when it was and to whom).

Then we could identify Maureen's birth so you would at least know what year she was born.

Maureen Baker Dainty's father was Bernard. ???

Did you even notice what I posted, about the Maureen who married Barnes, who had a child who had 3 children whom it might be possible to locate? (They might know who their grandmother Maureen is - whether she is the daughter of your father - or be able to put you in touch with their grandmother Maureen.)

If you would just answer some of these simple direct questions it might be possible to sort out this mess a bit! :-D

Jane

Jane Report 9 Jul 2017 19:20

My dad was Bernard A Baker, his first wife was Eileen (Nee Miles) Baker
Maureen was born in 1936 in Brighton

I may have missed it but what does the E stand for?

Marriages Dec 1925 (>99%)

Miles Ellen E Ranger Brighton 2b 601
Ranger Arthur J Miles Brighton 2b 601

The Maureen E Baker who later married Dainty is listed with Ellen E Ranger (as per the above couple) in 1939

Ranger Household
Brighton C.B., Sussex, England

E (Ellen) Ranger 1884
E (Maureen) Dainty (Baker) 1936
J (Arthur) Ranger and 2 more people are on this record

so sadly appears to have died

Rambling Report 9 Jul 2017 20:24

Given that it's the same area, it appears likely that Brian Dainty remarried after Maureen's death but died 1996.

Rambling Report 9 Jul 2017 20:34

Something wrong somewhere!

Rambling

Rambling Report 9 Jul 2017 20:56

Bernard A Baker was born 1913 according to Jane's tree, so definitely not the one that married 1919,

but the Maureen Dainty on 1939 is very confusing, if that is indeed Ellen Eileen Miles, or Eileen Ellen.... how come she is still married to Ranger, but with Baker child?

Have I lost the plot lol?

Rambling

Rambling Report 9 Jul 2017 21:14

Jane have you confirmed beyond doubt that the Bernard A who married your mother is the same Bernard A? There are quite a few of them, did he marry again after the marriage to your mother and in same area, Edmonton?

Jane

Jane Report 9 Jul 2017 22:18

Bernard Augustine Baker, born in Redhill, in 1913, not Edmonton, married Eileen Miles, had a daughter Maureen E Baker in 1936, they divorced , and after the divorce went through, he married Joan Cecil Thompson

Rambling Report 9 Jul 2017 23:07

Yes I know from your tree and freebmd where he was born, that and the marriage to your mother in Edmonton are easy to find on freebmd.

Perhaps someone else can work out what the 1939 register entry signifies, as i am stumped by it?

Rambling

Rambling Report 9 Jul 2017 23:49

ah ok realised why the 1939 wasn't adding up, the Eileen Ranger I posted is not Eileen Baker (nee Miles mother's maiden name Stovold) , its her mother ( this is what comes of my only using the index and not looking closely at the DOB!)

Eillen Miles parents:

Miles Charles A Stovold Brighton 2b 470
Stovold Ellen E Miles Brighton 2b 470

assume then that this is Eileen E Miles born 1913

1939 REGISTER TRANSCRIPTION (PREVIEW)

Not seeing a marriage to O'Meara so assume mistranscription? if someone could check the image
