Rose- I don't have James and Henry in the same tree. In Henry's tree I have Annie Wilson Brown ( sister) born approx 1909 Thomas Brown born Oct-Nov- Dec quarter 1915 both in Barrow. But I have not searched for any other siblings Then comes Henry Jul-Aug-Sep quarter 1918 but born in Lancaster. I will order this birth certificate, Maiden name of mother was Wilson. I do have a James married to Emma M Brown as Henry's grandparents in 1891 Census AND in the 1901 census they show a Henry Brown living with them as a grandson but he is aged 12 so it cannot be Henry Briard Brown.( my father) |

If this is the James, 64, from 1901, being a soldier gets you around the country; |

Shirley posted a Brown/Wilson marriage in Lancaster in 1913, if you look at the births, the 2 Lancaster ones would look far more likely to belong to Shirley's |

If these are siblings, then Henry was born very soon after James: |

If you are wondering why they moved around the country, you need to start investigating migrations of workers to find jobs etc |

You have not got the birth certificate. You do not know it is him. (Though the french polisher seems fairly conclusive for census) It was wartime, strange things happen. Were his wife's parents living there? |

From what I can see Briard is a predominately Jersey name I searched for him as Briard Brown, Briard but no success. I noticed in the 1911 census his sister was called Annie Wilson Brown. I made a guess that Wilson was her mothers maiden name. When I searched for a marriage between Wilson and Brown round about 1909 +or- there was only one combination. I traced Mary Wilson tree back a couple of generations and no trace of Briard there. If keeping the maiden name and married name in common ie Wilson Brown, is a trend then you would think there would be a Briard somewhere. I went back to 1881 census- Household record no trace. What puzzles me is that the whole Wilson Brown family history around that timeis in Barrow- earlier generations, from Suffolk Devon. |

Does your research backwards give any clue as to where the 'Briard' comes from? |

As yet I have requested a copy of his birth certificate. I am waiting for a response to a story in the North West Evening Mail 21/03/13 seeking any information on Henry Brown. Here are the details I have. From a copy of the marriage certificate he is listed as Henry Briard Brown aged 27 ( in 1944) so his birth year would be 1917/18. His father was a John Brown described as French Polisher living in Barrow In Furness Lancs. One of the witness' was a Thomas Brown. The 1911 census provided John Brown French Polisher aged 27. His wife was Mary Brown married 2 years They have a child Annie Wilson Brown aged 2 I searched BMD for Thomas Brown with mothers maiden name of Wilson in Barrow in Furness. Thomas was born 1915 ref 8e vol 1103 I then searched BMD for Henry Brown mothers maiden name Wilson and found Henry ( no middle name) born 1918 ref 8e vol 836 He is showing as been born in Lancaster- a bit of an anomoly but the maiden name is right, the age is right so I think it is him. I confirmed that Mary Wilson married John Brown. If the story does not produce any results then I will order a copy of his birth certificate. With the exception of Henry all addresses are in Barrow In Furness. |

The birth that Shirley posted did not have a middle name, are we trying to find a death as Henry B or just Henry? |
