Hi, I'm researching the family who used to live in my house in Halifax. I have managed to trace the Ore family. Ben Ore (1867) and Sarah Clegg (1867) married and had 3 children: Leonard, Ada and Lucy. When Ben and Sarah just had Leonard and Ada they lived in my house (I have traced the family as far back as the 1841 census). They then moved house and had Lucy in 1903. Lucy married Harold Rawnsley in 1931. Ada died age 12. Leonard I believe married Sarah J Hanson in 1925. I have tried to find out if either Lucy or Leonard had children but am coming up blank. If I could find local living relatives to the Ore's I might be able to get more information about the house and how they lived. I'm not sure how to fill in the last 100 years since the Ore's left the house but a visit to the library might help! |

A bit worried as surely anyone can check back through the census and see where you live now |

Thank you patchem - I'd noticed that Lucy died in 1990 - I was hoping she would have had children - I've found it strange that she didn't have any. Good idea for funeral notice - great - thanks for that. |

Have you looked to see if anyone on here has any of the families in their trees? |

Thanks again patchem - both Lucy and Leonard lived to good ages! I'll try the funeral notice avenue - I think thats a great opportunity. |

I haven't looked to see if anyone has them in their trees yet - I will do that next too. |

Presumably you know who sold you the house, plus talking to neighbours, some of whom could have lived in the street for many years. |

The people who sold us the house emigrated to Canada - I'm hoping I might have someone who has their contact details - I could at least get details of people who owned the house before them. Unfortunately the deeds of the house were very basic. I'll start chatting to neighbours. The area seems to be one that people do stick around for years. I've just started out my research into this and its really additive! I'm looking forward to researching the house and my families background. |
