My friend (without inverted commas) is the half brother. We don't know if this man was registered with his mothers surname or his adoptive parents' surname. We've been told he was born at a temporary address in Elgin, but a photo shows "aged 6 weeks" from a studio in Edgeware Middx, so he went south fairly swiftly |

A child's birth is registered in its birth name...............if illegitimate, that name is its mother's |

We only have snippets grudging given out by an aunt, sometimes contradictory. I don't know how we know the exact date of birth, but that's what I was told it was. I was also told that the baby was taken immediately after birth, so it is possible that the adoptive parents did the registration - don't forget, this was war time, and there were a lot of secreets.... |
