Sorry to re-post but I've been told this should have gone on the 'Living Relatives' board

I'm trying to do a family tree for a friend and struggling from the outset.
All she knows of her father is that his name is John Thomas Matthews and she believes he was born in Walsall (or nearby)
I've got the marriage cert (married 1962) which shows John's age at the time to be 20yrs which would put his DOB about 1942 - living in Providence Lane Walsall and working as a bricklayer.
His father's name was also John Thomas Matthews and he was a lorry driver for British Railways.

But that's where it ends -I can't find a John Thomas Matthews born Walsall -any suggestions other than send off for half a dozen different birth certificates on the off-chance?

hi Wungle

You were given advice on the other thread so no point in reposting on here to be given the same advice

I read that initially you were advised your enquiry was best on this board but as its been dealt with then its best to delete this one as your enquiry has been answered . :-D

Thank you for pointing that out, however the advice given was...

However I feel that you should really post this on the "Living Relatives" board, not here.

NOT' you should have posted it -therefore I did as was suggested'

Perhaps he felt that different people with different areas of interest view different boards -otherwise there would be no point in separating the boards into different categories.

Thanks again for the advice.

No Terry, everyone who tries to help looks at all of the boards.

There isn't enough on any one board these days to keep anyone occupied.

Time was when a complete page of posts would be added in well under five minutes............using the 'correct' board made more sense then............

Setting up boards under different categories is intended to be helpful

What I would say, though, is that the Genealogy Chat board is definitely not intended to be used for lookups........read the GR blurb
