Have just found out that Brocket Hall was in the Hatfield area and thousands of babies were born there during WWII. There is a really interesting website all about it!

Have recently recieved info re one of my rellies who was adopted out of the family.
He was born ib Hatfield to a single mother.

I noticed when looking up his birth, that of the five births registered for that quarter/year Three were born to single mothers.

This makes me think that there must have been a mother and baby home (or something of that ilk) in the area.

The mother in this case was not from Hatfield (or even Hartfordshire)

You could try purchasing the birth certificate for the Christine in 1944 to rule things out. As I said, it's in Hatfield district, but there are no marriages in that area so it stands out to me.

Was your mother married when the baby was born? If so the baby would most likely been registered in her married name

Thank you for your responses. I can only assume that the baby was born in the South East area - sorry, don't have much to go on! I know that my mother wasn't evacuated.

Not sure where Hatfield comes in? Hafield is Hertfordshire and Uckfield is Sussex

Linda may have been born in 1946, but she has not specified place of birth - but it was probably Uckfield district.

Have you tried looking for birth with your mums maiden name.
Do you know if she stayed in the same area or was evacuated as the birth area may differ from yours .

I am searching for my half sister, born during WWII and put up for adoption by our mother. I have nothing to go on other than our mother's maiden name Arnold and that the father was a Canadian or American soldier. Any information or tips gratefully received.

We know that my adopted sister tried to make contact some 20 years ago, but our mother was not in a position to answer. I would very much like to make contact now.
