My family name is quite rare in the UK,yet there were "Seelings" living in the FYLDE area and also Haverford West up to the 50s.I have wondered if anyone knows of these families.Since my family lived in Wigan[not so far away from Fylde!] there may be a connection! |

Yes Patchem, these people are my father and his parents! My query relates to Seelings living in adjacent county to Lancashire, who I do not know.Further research shows they are not related to me.My GF was born in NZ and his father was born in London and was not called Seeling but Suling!!!This took some finding out!!!A long story. He was Suling on the ships passenger list and his first three children were Suling and subsequent siblings were Seeling and so that became the family name.Seeling and Suling can look very alike when written longhand!!The Seelings referred to in my query look as if they started out in the Hull area and probably Germany before that,as do the Seelings.I was following the Fylde Seelings thinking my GF might have had some "input" if you see what I mean!!He came here with the "Originals" All Black team in 1905 and then again to play for Wigan in 1910 after which he stayed. The "Originals" had a bit of a reputation of putting themselves about a bit!! |
