I'm trying to follow the ancestor line of my grandmother on my Mum's side, a Margaret Jane Franklin b.@ 1892 in and around London as far as I know.....She married a James Smith in 1914 and then my Mum Mary was born the following year. I don't seem to be able to find her in the census records......any help really appreciated... |

Thanks again..yes its a puzzle, I first thought that maybe Margaret Jane Franklin was written down as Jane Franklin, but then its the wrong parents......I suppose all persons must be on the census somewhere...but she is definitely not down......a bit more digging during the week and see where I can get with it.....Regards Susan |

Hi..having been searching around for information on why she not coming up on the 2 census returns. I first tried different spellings but got nothing. I found a couple of suggestions that were interesting. Margaret may heve been in hospital at the time, but ruled that out because she wasn't in 2 of the census. She may have been brought up with grandparents who didn't put her on the forms ....or possibly placed in an orphanage due to the fact the family may have been too poor to keep her at that stage......one of the above may be why we could not find her....thanks for your help ...Susan |

Right, been spending hours on this. I think Ihave now solved the above. I went into the 1891 and 1881 census, and feel that there were a few mistakes either due to the family misprinting wrong dates etc or misreading the names when the record was printed. So foloowing is what I've come up.So hope this makes sense :- William James Franklin b.1845 head...Augusta Eliza Shepherd wife married @ 1863.... |
