So, what relation to Edward was Barbara's father Roy?

A bit confused with the above, but that's not unusual!
If at all possible, purchase the relevant certificates, just to confirm your beliefs. May be someone can assist on the thread with the relevant references (if you don't know them) when not so busy?
UK overseas and England certificates can be purchased at http://www.gro.gov.uk/gro/content/certificates/ for £9.25 inc P&P. CC and DC accepted.
If/when you write to Barbara, keep it general along the lines of believing that Cath may have ancestors in common and ask her to confirm if this is so. If a dialogue develops, you can bring in the exact relationship later.
Since Barbara was born 1951, she probably has access to the internet to reply on, but you might want to consider enclosing a prepaid reply envelope/label. Not sure how that works with international mail.
If you celebrated, hope you had a good Christmas Day...ours is just beginning!

Hi Folks, The Story is long BUT I will explain.. My Daughter in Law Cath Hamleys Father is Edward Hamley b 1925 Egypt. What I found out was a William Hamley was possible the Father of Edward, BUT possible died in the Army, I found that Edward and is Mother also born in Egypt were brought over to the U.K. by the Hamley Grandparents and Roy Hamley married Edwards Mother 1935 Aldershot, sadly marriage ended , the Grandparents died the same year 1932. Sadly Edy died last year but remembered Roy good memories, Edy enlisted in the British Army W.W.2. I don't want to invade Barbara's private life, But we would like to know if she was told any think by her Father. Many thanks to every one. A Merry Christmas and a good 2013.. John. OZ.

Could we ask the reason for the request please?
Probable surname now BANKS.
She, her husband and likely 2 children are listed on the current ER in or near Portsmouth (partial post code Waterlooville, PO7) on http://www.192.com/people/search/
This is a pay to view site -you'll have to purchase credits.
They don't seem to be listed on the online phone book.
Try searching for her, or other members of the family (names shown on 192.com) on facebook. The children, if not her, are of the age where they are likely to have accounts.
