Another thought. Is your friend sure he was in the RAF?

the only one with 715 against the name is 715 Naval Air Squadron

right - will check that

RMP, as I know it, is part of the Army...........Royal Military Police (known as the Redcaps)

Does your friend have a time-scale for the man's period of service? in whichever branch it was............

There are 715 Squadrons in USA and Australia..........

he was British apparently but have just discovered it was not Squadron but squad - a group who enlisted at the same time - grateful for all help and suggestions - sorry to be messing everyone about

Inkerman Barracks, Woking
Date of construction 1859
(Converted to barracks in 1892)

The barracks were named after the Battle of Inkerman fought during the Crimean War on 5 November 1854.

In 1892 a prison for invalid convicts at Knaphill, near Woking, was converted to house two battalions of infantry. The first infantry battalion to be quartered there in 1895 was 2nd Battalion The Royal West Surrey Regiment (The Queen's). In September 1947 the Royal Military Police moved to Inkerman Barracks, establishing Inkerman as the home of the Corps.

Now Demolished.
