Find Living Relatives

Not sure if anyone can help but here goes.
I'm trying to help someone trace their aunt.Her aunts father's 1st wife died and the 2nd wife was sent to a home for being of unsound mind.He farmed the children out for a while but eventualy got them back all but one.She was given to someone (name not known) and was bought up by them.We do know she kept her forenames but don't know if her surname was changed or if she went through an odoption,it would have been around 1930.She was last seen by her sisters in the rd she was living but after that no more contact.
We have her birth year 1925 and where she was born and the rd she lived in with these people.
Can anyone advise us where to look any help would be very welcome as she still has sisters and brothers alive in their 80s.

*If* she went through an adoption, there isn't a lot you can do.

It might be best to have a look at and post on Living Relatives as there are a number of people who can advise on the regulations. Have a read of the paragraph at the top of the FLR board. There are various agencies your friend can add their names to, in the hope that their aunt (or cousins) are also looking for birth family.

If she only assumed her foster/adoptive parent's surname, she may have used her birth name on marriage. Have you looked into that? Bear in mind that as long as it is not for illegal purposes, any one can call themselves what every they like.

If she went through a legal process of adoption to these people she was living with,,,,,,,,a copy of her original birth certificate will state this, nothing more will be added by way of any new name/s she may have been given,it will only show her birth name,,,A copy can be applied for.

the siblings can be assisted and they should seek help,their local council can give details of Social Services,Childrens Services dept to contact,these will take them through the process of application to seek this person.......its not an overnight happening so dont delay,in view of ages.

How many houses on the street? You could look at old electoral rolls for that street to get a list of possible surnames.

it was a long rd but as we dont know who she went to and if im right they dont put you on a census till 21 need a name to get into it for 1946 but not thought of electoral rolls how would you see them.
There is a tree with her on it but no one has matched with her.

Old electoral rolls can be view by address at the nearest local library.

Obviously, you won't see her listed until after the war, but her adopted parents would be.
