You can't be sure, without Thomas's marriage certificate but it does look likely. However, I can't see a marriage for George and Eleanor.

Hazel

Hazel Report 30 Oct 2012 16:01

Yes that all fits George must have been Thomas"s father and obviously outlived him.

Flip

Flip Report 30 Oct 2012 15:46

George is still in Tring in 1881 and married, but by 1891 he is also in Harrow and a widow, living with his children and sister in law. occupation carpenter.

By 1911 Frederick was in Wendover Bucks, a grocer with his family so it looks like most of them moved away from Tring.

added, John Sears is also a carpenter and in Harrow in 1901 with his family!

It would look likely, George was on the 1861 census so I assume Frederick was born later, haven't looked for them in 1871 as there was no backup to this being the right family before getting the location of George's death.

Hazel

Hazel Report 30 Oct 2012 15:29

Yes they did live in Abert Street Georgina was born there George and Frederick must have been her uncles?

Flip

Flip Report 30 Oct 2012 15:23

It looks like George is a likely candidate for Thomas's father - he died in 1906, his probate record states

George Sears of 12 Albert Street, Tring died 1/4/1906, probate granted 20/2/1907 to George Sears, carpenter and Frederick Sears, grocer.

Think Thomas lived Albert Street from earlier postings?

Hazel

Hazel Report 30 Oct 2012 15:03

Yes Georgina and the butlers daughter was my Aunt Edna who was brought up by my grandfather as his own. She was born in 1906/07 as Edna Kracher but was known later as Edna Lester. In 1911 she was living in Diseworth with Georgina and my grandfather Richard Lester. This was a family secret until after Grandma and Grandad died then Aunt Edna needed a copy of her birth certificate and it all came to light. Never been able to find out anything about her father.

You're welcome, well, if George was his father (you'd need marriage cert to check) then he was still in Tring in 1901, a retired lawyer:

So where was Georgina & the butler's child in 1911 - do you have a name for the child or year of birth?

ErikaH

ErikaH Report 30 Oct 2012 14:05

My results were on the back of Flip's postings.....couldn't have found the info without her input

BUT.....you need to re-think...........none of Georgina's immediate family remained in Tring. Her father didn't even die there.

Looks like you're on the right track Reggie! I missed that marriage even though I was using the phonetic search.

Incidently looks like Lydia didn't re-marry, but died in 1921 -she was living at 65 Norholt Road, Harrow with daughter Emily Alice Smith on the ERs. No probate record though.
