hi everyone congrats a great section of this site, i need help myself again I need to find a marraige for my first cousin i cant find one on free bmd, my cousin is called Stephen Hairyes born dec 1956 Bramley Leeds his father wasDennis Hairyes born june 1929 Leeds Dennis married a Jean Betteridge Dec 1953 .Stephens Grandfather was Samuel Hairyes and his Grandmother was Rita Hairyes all from Leeds please help ? kind regrds Nicholas

If he changed his name to Stephen Scott he could have moved anywhere and finding an exact marriage could be difficult...he may not even still live in this country

Nicholas, I have told you it is actually Barkston Ash (with an s). If you google search it you will learn where exactly it is in Yorkshire.

It does look like that, but it seems the registration district actually comes under West Yorkshire. Unfortunately, if we go with the theory that Stephen changed his name, there are just too many possible marriages.
I wonder if you should follow the trail left by Jean? It's a very long shot, but if you go to BT online (which is free to search) there are just 3 Scotts listed in Barkston Ash. Different initials to the ones you want mind. Worth a try, you never know!
I think it now comes under Tadcaster, so might help just a little - maybe!

Aww, Nicholas, thanks! We didn't solve it as such, but at least you have one or two lines of inquiry.
If all else fails, although it seems a bit off-centre, I might consider getting the marriage cert for Jean and David Scott, assuming you do not know when and where Jean was born and who her father was. It might be that you can trace some of her family as the name is an unusual one.
