Find Living Relatives

On behalf of my friend am looking for her father. Her mother met her father at the bus depot late 1940's early fifties. Her mother was already married to a Royal Navy Seaman. Her mother's married name was Elizabeth Hodgkinson nee Dewar. They moved to Hull where Catherine was born in 1952.

Would be really grateful for any help with this

Is her Mother's surname Hodgekinson or Hodgkinson?
Was her Mother born Elizabeth Taylor Hunter?
I can see a Catherine Barrett born in Hull in 1952, but not with any of those surnames for Mother.

Correct surname is Hodgkinson. Her Maiden name was Hunter taylor. She met Michael Barrett whilst she was still married to John Hodgkinson. Before my friend Catherine was born her parents moved to Hull. Her mother changed her surname from Hodgkinson to Barret. It did not have to be done on a legal basis at this time and was quite common for women having children out of wedlock. On my friend's birth certificate her mothers name is shown as Elizabeth Barrett formerly Hodgkinson nee Hunter Taylor. John Hodgkinson divorced Elizabeth in 1953 by which time Elizabeth and Michael had parted.

mis read information. Did not know of Scottish custom of including surnames as middle names - so name Elizabeth Taylor Hunter Dewar.

Do you believe that Michael Barrett was also Scottish, and was your friend given any reason for choosing Hull?

Hi The Identity cards show her parents living in Hull from December 1951 at the same address as her birth certificate. Her father's occuptaion is shown as a lorry driver. A cousin recently told her Michael was a bus driver and her mother was a conductress at the Dumfermline Bus Depot. Cathy has no family living in Hull as they all lived in Scotland. It might be possible that Michael had family in that area. Her mother would not discuss her father whilst she was alive and my friend only found the Idenity cards, divorce papers and a photo of her mum with a sailor who she thinks must be John Hodgkinson amonst her mum's papers when she passed away.

Could your friend talk to any other of her cousins for further information about Michael?

Hi she has tried. She only has one cousin and he is the same age and that is all he knows. It did not help that her mother moved to Hull and then to London. Had she stayed local the cousin and/or my friend would probably have known more. It is like looking for a needle in a haystack. My best hope is that some half siblings were looking for her. During a very rare conversation with her mother, her mother said she had fallen out with her father over money to buy her a pram. My friend moved to London when she was 1.
