Buy the marriage cert........you can order it on line form the GRO for the equivalent of £9.25 Sterling including postage

https://www.gro.gov.uk/gro/content/certificates/Login.asp

It will tell you how old he was - and his father's details

I will send you info about his marriages by PM - too recent to put on here.

Then you can look for him on www.192.com - if you find an entry, you'll have to purchase credits for the full details, but I'm sure you won't mind that

Also - look on here in 'search trees' - in the dark green bar at the top

Hi.. I need some help. I currently live in canada.. I read your post and understand if you cant help.
Im looking for information about my birth father. He hasnt been im my life sinceI was about 2 and Im way past that now. I have managed to find the marriage certificate on here my mother and him. His full name on my full birth vertificate is.. Edward Thomas Richard Key. He served in the royal navy I believe. And my parent were married in Hampshire.
Im stumped to get any further and stubborn mother doesnt want to answer questions.
Would really appreciate any help possible getting anymore info or an easier way to get info. I click on tne marriage certificate I found put it on my clipboard but now I have to keep using credits to view it not sure what I did or if im even using this right. I have tried to google local papers in the area to put in a posting but could find anyhelp.

If you could assist me fantastic if anyone elsecould help that would be great too im not very computer savvy.
Thanks Sarah

A good example of why people need to start their own threads - it's just more likely to produce results than one individual going it alone. When people are new to the site, and see this thread, they may not realise this is the best thing to do.
All the members who help out have their own strengths/weaknesses/resources, and if a problem is very tricky the exchange of ideas is often the way it gets resolved.

I think the OP's offer relates only to the UK

You would be much better off posting a request of your own...with 'Australia' in the title

Jackie

Without casting aspersions, may I say that I hope you will be VERY cautious about what info you hand out - and to whom.

Not all people seeking living so-called relatives are genuine

Just to point out that I am not twisting anyone's arm here to add a question to me personally.
If someone wants to contact me or anyone else they are free to do so. I am not making any wild claims for 100% results, merely another pair of eyes. I don't quite know what the problem is

Jacqueline, not sure what this thread is for really. Now and again, as I am sure happens to others, people PM me asking for help. I almost always advise them to start a thread as I think several heads are better than one! I feel quite worried about going solo as the research isn't open to scrutiny and might well have errors which others pick up on.

Maureen,

You're better off starting a new thread so that everyone can chip in. The problem with PMs going back and forth is that we don't know what information is being exchanged.

Google is not picking up the message posted in the newspaper. Have you tried Missing-you.net?

What is this board for?

Genes may aswell do away with the boards as they are so quite these days, and let everyone ask you for help

Hope you have access to the ER as it would be pointless offering to help if you cannot finish it

Jax,

This thread covers people who are looking for living relatives, not ancestors.

Since the search pages have changed, so has the way people search for help. Just giving another option for all out there needing a hand.
