Looking for Edith Haley, born in Bradford in 1936. Edith married Roy Cobb in Brighton, 1959; this marriage was subsequently dissolved.

She was known to be in the Herts/Essex area in 1964 as she had a daughter with John Mclay Marshall; she married John in 1990 and he died in Bradford in 2000.

I believe Edith's father was called Hubert and her mother Phyllis.

If you are related to Edith or have any news of her, please get in touch.

There is one other member with her in their tree, are you in touch with them? (Use 'search trees' above to search).

Just double-checking you are certain she was born Bradford? Only asking as that one has no middle initial, whereas the Edith marrying Roy Cobb had middle initial A. The Edith who married John married as Edith Marshall, is that correct?

Hi Jan,

Thanks for your reply. I've contacted the other member and keeping fingers crossed.

Yes It's definately the same Edith, she was already using the name Marshall when she married John.

Edith's middle name is Amy but she uses it intermidently it seems.

The only other thing I can think of is to look for matches with other family members - there are quite a few siblings for Edith it seems!
Are you familiar with Freebmd, where you can search for births, marriages and deaths 1837-1955ish:

http://www.freebmd.org.uk

If you insert surname plus mother's maiden name you will see all the birth entries.

Do you have an address for her from the death cert which you could investigate?

Hi Jan,

I've got her 2 marriage and birth certs, have just ordered John's death certificate. Hopefully the address will be useful, although I'm not local to Bradford unfortunately.

I've contacted a few potential nieces of Edith but with no luck so far. Will keep researching though.

It seems that several of her sisters did not marry which does not help in tracing. I'll just have to keep plugging away as you suggest.

Thanks so much for taking the trouble to reply.

Just keep at it Marilyn, sometimes it takes just one lucky break - and a bit of detective work of course. I found a death cert for my great-uncle cracked the mystery of where he disappeared to for example, and now I am in touch with that branch of the family. At least the name isn't a bad one to look for!
