Hi Persie,

Thanks for this. I had a similar email too! My first request made by email was refused. I replied and had another email from a different person, saying if I paid the $20 fee, the documents will be mailed to me. I'm having a little more difficulty gaining access to my uncle's High Court and Coroner files, but again, waiting for a response to my reply.

Thank you so much for all your help with this, really appreciate it.

Have also Pmd Mark..

I have been making enquiries re our Archives because not everyone can visit the offices.. the site says order and view at office..

I received this which is for the archives that are on open access.

"Thank you for your enquiry regarding ordering archival records.

You do not need a reader number to order from overseas. You just need to send an email to the relevant Archives New Zealand office including information about the record you require. We will tell you how much it will cost for us to photocopy the information and will send you an electronic link to make payment. Each probate costs $20.00 which includes photocopying. Other records are $25 per one half hour research time and also include photocopying up to 20 pages. "

I will also post this on the NZ tips board that Tony in Oz has on GR.

Persie

Persephone/LadyKira/Buddah - A big THANK YOU to you both. The details of my uncle's death have always been a mystery! Although he passed away before i was born, can remember my mum telling me about him, she thought the world of him and was heartbroken that he was killed so far away. Always said to her that one day, I'd take her ti New Zealand to her brothers grave, unfortunately, that won't happen as she passed away in 2004. She always claimed that she could hear him calling out her name one night and when the news came through, it was the night, but daytime in NZ giving the time difference, he was killed by the bulldozer. Gives me an excuse to visit NZ one day!!

Thank you for all the info about my grandparents, Walter and Fanny Kate Patterson, have traced my grandmothers siblings, but have struggled with my grandfathers side, but maybe not now, thank you again. My grandfather was indeed in the Royal Sussex Regiment and served in India. My grandmother was indeed brought up in Ringwould and at one point, lived there when my mother and her siblings were a lot younger.

Just loved this website and everyone seems so keen to help, love that side of it too. Just a shame not so lucky tracing my own father.

Your next task would be to trace each of your grandparents siblings to see if any of them went to New Zealand,

I am thinking if the letter says aunti to your mother then perhaps she is referring to to one of her own or her husband's siblings.

The ski slope he was working on could have been Coronet Peak near Queenstown... or at the Cardrona ski fields... looks like he was residing in Arrowtown at the time...

You should go down there sometime... one of the most beautiful flight paths .. flying into Queenstown. My OH can't bear to look out of the window.

Well, LadyKira, WOW - thank you sooooo much. Always thought my uncle sailed to NZ from Kuala Lumpur, but hey, that's the wonderful thing about searching your family history, always something you don't expect.

Vine Cottage was where my grandparents lived at the time of his passing in NZ and the address I have on the top of the letter sent by my grandmother to my mum informing her of James' tragic accident. Just looking forward to hearing from the NZ agency to see what else comes up.

Just a shame I can't have the same luck with tracing my father!

THANK YOU!!!!
