Although the DOB for george william Allen says 1903 but I think more like 1902 as my mother was Phyllis may allen, & it says registered 1907 but her birth certificate says 1906.Proberbly because so countrified in those days.

Norton is just a small village just outside MALTON.
I have friends that live at both Norton and Malton.

Not Ecclesall as that is a district of Sheffield.

I am having trouble finding George's birth reg do you have that?

Joan

Joan Report 7 Feb 2012 17:37

Thank you all Penny, Kay & Jax, I understand now.

Jax he was my Uncle although I did'nt know him, my mother left home & came to London, but before she came to London she lived with her brother george in Leeds, who'd bought a property in Leeds, she could'nt bear her Father & changed her name so that they could'nt find her.

We didn't know any of this until she was 67, 2 yrs older than my father, she had to tell him, so that she could get her pension.

In her ignorance she thought she would be in trouble for changing her name
she even thought she was born in 1907, but she was actually born in 1906 when they went to Somerset house & got her birth certificate.

I wish she spoken of all this to us as we missed out on a lot of relations.

thanks for everyones help.

If his name was George William why do you think this marriage is his?

He may not have married in Leeds or at all for that matter

Do you actually know of him?

Kay????

Kay???? Report 7 Feb 2012 15:44

Hi Joan.

If you refer to one birth details being the same registration but in two sepertate surnames....its mainly because the parents was not married at that time.

or,,,possibly you mean something like ,

1)Jones----John,,,,,--2)Brown-----Someplace.

First is the registered surname,,the second refers the the given maiden name of the mother.early birth records do not show a maiden name.

Penny Report 7 Feb 2012 15:41

Its because its an alphabetical listing. If you were to look for Smith it would prob say 'Smith to Smith'.

Eventually It would say 'Smith to Smithe' Then perhaps 'Smithe to Smither'

Look for Brown and there will be pages of Brown to Brown but eventually there will be Brown to Browne.

Jenny

Jenny Report 7 Feb 2012 13:59

Hi maybe try an electoral role search - you need to do his tree eg get his birth then his marriage to check the fathers match. Then search the addresses. If there is a death certificate for him that may have a child's name on it. Hope that helps, J
