Hi Patricia,

My name is Jackie and my great grandfather on my mothers side was Leonard John Nicolls.I never knew him as he died in about 1942 and I was born in 1965.

My grandmother Beatrice Nicolls as told me a few things about him, he was from Colchester and my great grandmother was from Paddington London.they had three children Winifred Beatrice and John. Leonard Nicolls was an officer in the army and he died in action in Indonesia in 1942.

Hope this helps

Hello Patricia,

Have you tried putting the names you are researching into the Search Trees box above? This will tell you if anyone on this site has those people in their tree.

If you find any connections, you can contact the tree owners to see if they can help you.

I am researching any facts I can about my grandmother, Edith Amelia Nicholls, who was born in Colchester in 1891. Her parents were Sarah, nee Goddard, (born Hawley, Hants) and John Nicholls ( born Forncett St Peter, Norfolk)
My mother was not brought up by Edith, in fact she never knew her. Edith was a children's nurse and never married. She paid a Mrs Stewart in Colchester to bring Mum up. She travelled the world with wealthy families and often lived in London. However, I believe she died in Colchester, in 1955 at the home of her cousin, Florence Mary Richer in Rowhedge. (Florence Richer went on to marry an Edward Cushing in the 1960s)
Edth had a brother, George, who moved to Paddington where he married his wife, Lottie. They had Leonard, Edith and Ruth, but I do not hnow what happened to the children.
Her elder sister, Emily married a Ralph Percy Octavius Partington and I have found her children.
Her younger sisiter, Ethel May went to New Zealand and I have had her daughter and granddaughters to stay with me. However, none of them knew of Mum's existence.
I have not been able to find out what happened to the younger brothers, Albert William or Leonard John. I am still hoping to find a photo of Edith. I have been given family photos but no one can identify her. All siblings were born in Colchester but I think that the younger brothers may have looked for work in London.
Can anyone in Colchester or Rowhedge tell me anything about my grandmother or her siblings?
