i am looking for my nephew who was adopted in early 1974, he was named Jamie Adrian Pratt, date of birth 09/11/1973, his mothers name is Janice Elizabeth Pratt, he came from the Leicester area and we believe he was taken to the east coast or devon, with bristol also being a possibility, we are trying to contact due to the ill health of his birth mother and she would like to make contact. If anyone could help with his wearabouts i would be grateful.

Lyn, have you tried putting your name on the national adoption register? If he is seeking his birth family he will possibly register on there.

In the meantime, I would contact NORCAP who have expertise in these matters:

www.norcap.org.uk

You could also think what he might do were he trying to trace his birth family - he would use his birth name and might register with this on sites such as Friends Reunited and Facebook. Worth a try.

Good luck!

There is also someone called Jamie with a tree on this site. It maybe worth contacting him. Also another which gives another surname...which could be his adoptive name? the birth year is out by one year but worth a try

Finding people who were adopted is normally best done through an intermediate - have you tried contacting the agency/authority you used?

I'm not on the adoption register, but i'm looking for birth relatives.

In december of 2005 the law changed to allow birth mothers the right to find their birth child via an intermeadiary service.

The easiest route to take would be to ring the `General Registrar Office` the adoption section explaining the situation.

The birth mother would have to do this as it is only she who has the right too.

They will explain to you the next steps.

Good luck
