hi just received an original birth cert for adoptee and just names mothers name and occupation and adress which is a mother and baby home at the time (according to google) all father details just have lines through boxes, i really wanted her date of birth so then i could go back and obtain her birth cert etc and find names of grandparents/aunts etc im confused should this cert have her d.o.b (it is 1963) also in column 7 it says signiture, description, residence of informant but theres no signature or description just address? this may just be normal for that time or is it due to adoption?? :-S if anyone can shed any light i would be grateful thankyou

You only get the parents names, address and ocupations on birth certs.

If the child was born in 63 the mothers birth should be on freebmd, but if the name is common it could prove difficult

if you refer to the mother's DOB, you won't find that on ANY birth cert other then her own.

Certs only contain info which is relevant to the event being recorded.

Is this your own birth cert? You might be better off getting access to your adoption records if you haven't already done so, there might be a bit more info on there.

Have a look here for information you can expect to find on birth, marriage and death certificates:-

If the address in the informant's column is not the same as the birth address, it should be possible to check old electoral lists for that household, ...they will be in a main library or archive local to that address.

This might provide clues to other family names, although it won't tell you actual relationships.
