Thanks for every ones contribution to this thread, my wife and sister spoke to each for the first time last night for nearly two hours. It went very well, both are very happy.
Another success storey thanks to Genesreunited.

Your wife needs to see her adoption file. Its almost certain she will be told her file is lost or cannot be found ( seems to be a stock answer) but persist and more often than not, they are located. ASk your local SS to do this. They have more clout than your wife.

Hopefully her file will contain proper info.

I learned from mine that I too had a full sister, and that the same adotion agency had dealt with her adoption.

Good luck

DIDN'T REALISE THIS WAS AN OLD THREAD

Have you not seen the replies from Amanda?

Have sent pm with two possible names. If these are no good you should get in touch with social services again and ask to speak to somebody that deals with adoptions and ask them to locate the records for you. Also has your wife registered with Norcap and the national adoption society

Hi Rose,
Just looked at the birth record for Norman S Underwood 1922 and found the tree with him in. Just sent a message to the tree owner. Thanks for finding that out for me, I haven't really been looking at the Underwood side of things but you never know it could be the way to solve this mystery.

Thanks again
Mike

I only found one birth in 1922 for a Norman S Underwood.

Yeah sorry Rose it was 1971, not sure why I said around 1971. I'll have a look for the tree, did you find it under Norman Underwood or Norman S Underwood? suppose it doesn't make a difference really, I'll go and look now.
Thanks
Mike

Mike,

I've never seen anything written about the S, I just noticed the pattern started appearing around 1961/1962 and goes up until 1984.

There is someone with Norman in his tree on this site. Might be worth sending him a message.

It is odd, as all the other children including my wife have the father listed.

Mike,

To start with you said the sister was born "around 1971", but later you say it was 1971. Do you know for sure it was 1971?

Rose,
That is a great tip, my wifes has a S at the end of it and I couldn't work out what it meant. I spent many hours on google trying find out what the S stood for and could never find out.. Now I know, thankyou.

Odd that there's no father listed for James as his birth is registered the quarter after the marriage.
