Sounds like they both need a lot of attention Jude. I have just finished the Burning Chambers by Kate Moss Set in Carcazone. Catholic’s an Hugenots. Very well written but not an easy read.

I am reading "The Librarian of Auschwitz"...not done any readying for ages and ages. Its based on the true story of Dita Kraus, brilliant but so so sad. One of the vile Officers is Mengele, also known as the Priest....verey good read.

Next will be "The weight of Ink" by Rachel Kadish, my cousin in New York has just read it, apparently a deep read.

Hi Ann and Perse, have had all sorts of trouble with my computer and internet connection, plus tablet and WiFi connection.
Just managed to get back on a secure site for Genes. and have seen this message.

Have just finished a small book of four stories, called "Four Stories" written by Alan Bennett. Including The Lady in the Van.
The others were -

The Laying on of Hands.

The Clothes They Stood Up In.

and
Father, Father, Burning Bright.

All interesting and amusing.

Will be taking it back to the library tomorrow. Has anyone else read any Alan Bennett stories?

Am now reading Shadow Sister, Lucinda Riley. So far I am loving it. Will be trying to get the others in the series.

Am very slow reading nowadays. have got loads of books waiting to be read.
Will be back with my opinions on Shadow Sister, when I've finished it.

Will also let you know what other books i have plucked from ny shelves.
Nowadays it takes me a week + to read each book.

The Light Behind the Window - It is also done in two eras, present day and during WW2 when Germany was occupying France. Once again I loved it.

By the time I had finished it I was able to get the third book in The Seven Sisters series from local library. I finished it in no time and once again with the two eras. Love the references to Edward V11, Mrs Keppel and Beatrix Potter. She is such a good author, and whilst I have read a few other books since because there was none by her other than what I had read at the local library.

Today I went down to the fruit and veg shop and the back of it comes out right across the road from the library and so popped in and now I will read "The Angel Tree. "

I also see our local bookshop has a stand with; I would say all her books. She obviously has a following over here.

It is quite strange this time for me, not having to write reviews or make suggestions. Before when I took a break until Berona died, whilst I missed the group I could still look in at what was going on.

Here in NZ, it is all "All Blacks beat the Lions" and "NZ won the America's cup" and a few political hiccoughs within NZ and the usual NZ news and what has been going on in UK with Islam and Theresa May and Grenfell which I have linked all in one breath. I think my problem with her is even when she offers tea and sympathy she looks like she is only doing her duty and does not mean it.
And Trump, well we seem to be seeing less of him as well and I am never sure what he means. First mentioning tapes and then saying there were none..... I said to Nigel hmm wonder if there were tapes but his advisors have told him you can't play them you don't come out squeaky clean. Of course if there were tapes they will come out in the end, once on oath a lot of them will be reluctant to lie just as those like Dean etc would not lie during the Watergate investigation.

But no doubt when the sporting celebrations die down we will be back to him again.
