Hello Winifred,
I know the fitbit comes in quite a few models, and prices.
The fitbit one just records steps and I believe you dont need a phone/computer for that. I have a fitbit flex that records steps and sleep pattern. It links up to a mobile phone that takes apps or a computer. you can manually put in food then it counts your calories. I don't bother with that part. There are some that can monitor your heart rate as well.
My fitbit has stayed on well I do know some people that the clip on the strap keeps coming undone so loose the whole thing.

I think there is one called a jawbone that does the same sort of thing and it use to be alot cheaper then the fitbit.

Hope you find one that suits you.

Started walking seriously again on Monday so today was only day three but I walked further than I did yesterday and yesterday I was able to walk further than day one. Hopefully I will keep building the distance up. In my own defense there are a lot of hills and steps wherever you go here! Also making more effort to stick to the 5-2 and 'eat clean' even though there is most of a scrummy Christmas cake in the cuoboard.

I am amzed that sometimes I have walked almost two miles and I have not been out of the house all day. Probably something to do with going upstairs, forgetting what I went up for or getting side tracked, going down and then having to repeat the process. :-D

My daughter owns a gym and is a fitness instructor and one of her favouriye saying is "just keep moving" which I think is probably true. Even if your'e not moving much it is better than sitting around all day. Providing you are capable of moving of course.

I think that's a good way to do it Tenerife Sun. If you think that's sad I've started balancing on one leg at a time to strengthen my knee muscles while the kettle boils!!! lol They say we get healthier from pottering about all day, rather than an hour at the gym once or twice a week. Studies are showing that standing more instead of sitting is better for our blood sugar levels too and its because even just standing doing nothing our thigh muscles burn more calories than when we sit.

I have a Fit Bit 2 and wear it nearly all the time. It does motivate me, and three friends have now got step counters of various types after listening to me waffle on about them.

I do try and increase my steps and sometimes walk up and down the terrace in the television adverts to up the distance walked! How sad is that? I have been doing the 5-2 way of eating for a while now and so walking goes well with this.

Thanks for the latest update. I think that's how things go at times AnotherAnne, fits and starts. At least you must be a Bit fit now! lol. The New Year is a good time to get back on track and I was wondering whether to get one of these devices to help motivate me again. I lost my way this year due to lots of illness problems with my in laws and then funeral for one and a house then to clear. With the worry and stress I put more weight on instead of losing it so want to start again after Christmas as my knees and back will benefit!

I will have a read up about the device you have too SparklingAnn so thanks for that info. :-)

I have actually got a vivofit2, similar to the fitbit. It does make me aware of how little or much I walk, and also how muc sleep i get.

A word of warning. Daughter bought her son a fitbit from a firm on amazon for his birthday. when he went to set it up/register it, it was a fake. so she was sending it back, not sure if she has had her money back, but she then bought one locally.

Just a quick update on my fitbit. In february I was struggling to walk a 1000 steps, now 6months later I went for my first Jog yesterday. Ok it was only the length of a rugby pitch, walk the rest of way round then jogged the length again on the next circuit round

Also I walk for at least a hr a day which is good for me. Swimming twice a week and 15 mins treadmilling every day.
Also now when playing with grandchildren I can actually get back off the floor!

Hi Ann, I wear a pedometer a lot of the time as I find it helps to make me walk. I have been reading up on Fitbit products and I will be very interested to see how you get on with the Flex.

Please post on here what you think of it and if you think it helps you to exercise more

Sounds a good gadget Anne, Is it expensive?

Anotheranninglos

Anotheranninglos Report 10 Feb 2015 12:06

Hi Ann,
Its a more up to date pedator (or the thing that counts your steps). It fits into a wrist watch type strap. Links up to phone, tablet or pc and syncs your steps. You have a dashboard on the app where you can put your goals in and then every 3rd of you goal it vibrates. Monitors your sleep pattern as well, and you can put your food in so counts the calories.

Having not worked for 3 yrs I have got unfit and struggle to walk. Ive put on over a stone and half in weight and its affecting my knees. From Nov till new yr I lost half stone, then put 3lb back on and now been stuck. so hopefully this will motivate me a bit more.

I did wonder if it would me just a phrase and a gadget that probably wont get used after a while but have a member of family already lined up for it.
