Maude is a lady living with dementia. She struggles with her daily life and writes little notes to herself in order to remember the simplest of things. One of these notes tells her that her friend, Elizabeth, is missing. In Maude's mind the disappearance of Elizabeth is muddled up with that of her older sister, Sukey, who went missing not long after the end of the Second World War. As Maude searches for her friend, memories of her parents' search for Sukey become tangled in her head and her apparent ramblings make no sense to her long suffering daughter Helen. However, it gradually becomes evident to the reader that Maude's ramblings about the past have some truth to them and a long buried family mystery is revealed. |
