Gayda Report 25 Mar 2014 21:17

This was a beautiful, thought provoking and sometimes sad book. It is the story of two generations of women living in rural Suffolk, during the times of the first and second world wars. It tells of their lives and loves, their secrets and their sorrows. Each generation has a secret that can never be forgotten or told. A secret that prevents the woman at the centre of it from finding true happiness unless she is prepared to let it go. It shows how strong a mother's love is for her child, whether the child lives or dies, whether she keeps the child or gives it away. And, most of all, it shows how society's view of illegitimacy has changed over the years. Well worth reading.
