I bet you had a grin ear to ear Vera :-D.They usually stay around for a while and then just vanish .How many are there? I think the most I counted here was 7 or 8 when the were feeding on the Coconut.

I'm pleased to say the long tailed tits have been back today. I could hear them twittering the other side of the fence for quite a while before they flew into the garden. I hope they stay around for a little while.

Vera the Long TTs may well come back .I love to see them all in a group feeding.I haven't seen any here for a few months now.I hope you get more visitors today :-D

I am feeling right chuffed.

We've had a couple of sparrows and starlings and a blue tit on the feeder today but an hour or so ago I was standing in the garden talking to friends when a small flock of long tailed tits flew in and had a good go at the fat balls. You couldn't see the hanging feeder for feathers and tail and they didn't seem a bit concerned that there were four of us standing only a couple of yards away.

They didn't stay long but it was good while it lasted. :-D

I think that birds seem to get 'spooked' by high winds they seem to fly at the feeders then veer off again.

KenSE thank goodness you heard it and it was able to fly to freedom :-D.A friend of mine who lives in an old converted barn often has them flying in through their open door.But luckily they find their way out again :-D

It is all a bit quiet today on the window feeder.Must be something to do with this windy rainy weather we have.In fact the wind is really picking up now.Huge Gusts!!It must be the remnants of Hurricane Bertha passing through.I thought it was going to be a lot worse, so now thinking we have got away quite lightly really. :-D

They do nest in the eaves of this house and over the years there have been a few that flew in the window but it is a first for the attic.

What a shock but good that it flew off ok. Wonder why it was in the attic though?

We had just gone to bed last night about eleven when there was a noise of something moving about.

It wasn't continuous so it was a few minutes before we realised it was in the attic. I opened up the hatch but couldn't see anything from below and was just about to pull the steps down when a swift flew out of the hole down stairs and crash landed on the front doormat.

It appeared in good shape so I took it back upstairs and released it from a bedroom window. I was relieved to see it take flight and disappear rapidly.

Vera I hate it when words we type suddenly change into something different.I'm sure your 'Groogy' Froggy will be fine :-D
I do find that when I take the tray off the feeder to bring it in and wash ,that there are a lot of very confused looking birds.They fly towards the window and the n suddenly realise there is nothing to land on LOL
Hopefully word will get around now in the bird world that there is good tasty stuff to be had in your garden :-D
My daughter is home for the weekend and her friend and lovely Staffie dog Sam came for dinner.Sam is now sprawled right across the middle of the settee looking very chilled :-D :-D

Well, I can't say I've been inundated with birds today but this afternoon the feeder has been visited by one young starling, two sparrows and a blue tit, so my efforts with home made fat cakes etc have met with a partial success.

I had to laugh at a sparrow who flew on to the fence and stood looking down and sort of moving his head from side to side as if to say "Where's the shed gone?" (It was taken down this morning).

I hope OH didn't upset our resident frog when he took the shed down. I think groggy had made a bit of a home down the side.

Edit I keep typing Froggy and the iPad keeps changing it to groggy!!

It could possibly have been the flight song of a greenfinch Lesley. I've just been listening to some recordings.

We went to the same country park yesterday and were again struck by the lack of birds. Not having much luck in the garden either so I think they have all emigrated from East Anglia. Perhaps they've all moved in with Jane.

I've just thrown away the fruit I put out as it was going uggy and spent an hour washing all the seed containers etc. I've put out fresh seed and fat balls, suet pellets and clean water. I also made some fat cakes containing all sorts of bird goodies and am just waiting for them to harden up. If that lot doesn't attract them in to the garden I give up.

Vera could it have been a greenfinch you heard? I know some people that describe their song as wheeeezy although I have never heard it.

I did a long post yesterday but it isn't here :-S.Maybe I didn't hit the submit button hard enough.Now I can't remember what I said lol

I was sitting outside just now and heard a noise coming from the Summerhouse.It was a little Sparrow trapped in there :-(.After 10 minutes or so trying to guide it out it finally went.Poor little thing must have been so frightened and exhausted.
There were hordes of Starlings on our Aerials and roof earlier chattering away.But they
suddenly all took off as swiftly as they had arrived.

Kandj says Hello :-D.Hopefully she will be able to join us again soon.

We have a very large flock of Starlings that visit and an equally large flock of sparrows, an occasional blackbird, on small blue tit and a young robin, although not seen the last two for a coupld of days. We still have the collard doves eating us out of house and home. <3

Where have all the birds gone? We just aren't seeing any at the moment, well apart from an occasional sparrow or blackbird. I put a load of chopped up fruit out yesterday, which usually attracts a few birds, but it is just sitting there untouched.

We also went for a walk in our local country park yesterday and only saw one blackbird and all we could hear in the woodland were pigeons. Actually we did hear one other bird that neither of us could identify - a sort of long drawn out wheeee.. with a little upward note at the end. As we only heard it but couldn't see it anywhere I've no idea what it was.

Oh well, I expect the birds will be back when the summer's over and there's not so much natural food available for them

Shauns cucumbers are so much better than ours.I don't know what happened to them this year.We had a few and the rest were just rubbish.

Ann I sniffed out something again this morning in the garage :-S :-S.OH found loads of flies in there when he got up, so sprayed .I went in later and discovered a little patch the seemed to be 'moving' !!!.It was a mass of teeny weeny maggots .So I am guessing they were on what I had thought was some fluff from the tumble drier ,but it must have been 'fluff' from the remains of a mouse :-S :-S.I just hope there is nothing else lurking anywhere lol
I think a lot of birds must be having a day of rest.it has been very quiet,although plenty of Blackbirds on the lawn.
