Maryanna Report 2 Nov 2014 12:02

Morning, well the Carnival was as amazing as ever, which is more that I can say about the weather.

It waited until the first float got to us before it started to drizzle. We then had bouts of heavier rain on and off.

It had been lovely all day and the sun is out again now which is typical !!!

I think there were more people than ever there, they were at least four deep, I had a bit of a job seeing, being a bit on the short side. I think there was a convention of the Worlds Tallest People there, and they were all standing in front of me !!!!!!

The Gremlins Brunel Shipyard float was amazing and won the first prize. Most of the others were fantastic as well. So many lightbulbs. So much energy from those on the floats as well.

Have a good day. M. :-)

It is absolutely amazing. Completely over the top, so many lights. The Carnival Clubs can take a whole year to get the floats ready for the next one.

Some of the floats are huge, two lorries long, they are pulled by tractors. Some are tableaux, the people on them don't move, the others sing and dance the whole way round. There are also single entries and groups on foot.

My all time favourite was in 2012, the Gremlins carnival club " Revolution " it can be seen on YouTube. Having said that it was one of many that have been out of this world.

We usually get to see the Bridgwater carnival on our TV. Well some of it. It always looks fabulous.

Corrected as the spelling police have audited the thread. Apologies to the people of Bridgwater, for the extra e I am sure it really upset you. :-D

I think I have heard of the Bridgewater Carnival Maryanna. Is it a really well known one? With amazing costumes and floats??Fingers crossed the weather stays good until Saturday for you.
I must have a window or 2 open at night in our bedroom ,but at the moment we are getting so much noise from night work going on on the A14.OH keeps shutting them to get some peace, but usually by the middle of the night I am finding it too stuffy and sneak out of bed to open up a couple of windows (just a little :-D).I need to have air !!

AnninGlos Report 30 Oct 2014 21:30

Although we have had one or two warm sunny days I wouldn't say it had been consistently warm and we have had the heating on although not high.

Maryanna

Maryanna Report 30 Oct 2014 20:35

I must admit I am hoping the weather stays warmer for the next couple of days.

We are going to Bridgwater Carnival on Saturday. On carnival nights the weather has a tendency to not be very nice. Last year it rained the year before it was absolutely bitterly cold the year before it was foggy for instance.

Standing for anything up to three hours whist the carnival passes through can be a bit of a challenge so a mild evening would be very nice for a change.

We have hardly had the heating on so far this Autumn, at least the bills might be a bit cheaper than usual. I only shut the big bedroom windows at night earlier this week. Even himself didn't complain about them being open.

Oh Lucky you Ann.I haven't seen any Long TTs for ages now.I just love them :-D
I can't see my neighbour putting anything out for any birds :-SThey barely fed their chickens enough when they had them :-S..Sorry I'm being a bit bitchy lol.
I had to go and stand outside just now to cool off.It is soon warm.I just have a sleeveless top on.Anyway as I was standing there I could hear owls :-D That was about an hour ago (5.30)
21 degs tomorrow !!!.Sheesh! that is hot for this time of year.

Looking out of the window just before lunch, OH had just filled the bird feeder. I saw a bird and thought, Ooh good a Great Tit. Then I realised there were a large flock of birds flying into the tree, resting and taking off again. they were long tailed tits, so pleased to see that they are still around. I had better put up another coconut as that is what they seem to like.

Lovely blue sky in your butterfly photo Maryannna. Maybe your neighbour had thrown out some bread Jane.

Jane

Jane Report 29 Oct 2014 18:36

That is a lovely photo Maryanna :-D.Maybe there will be more Butterflies to see while this warm weather continues.I see it will be about 21 degs in some places on Friday !!
Now that will be hot :-0
There are quite a few Magpies about here too,but (touch wood) not in our garden. Also this morning I looked out our bedroom back window and counted 12 Pidgeons on next doors back lawn. There may well have been more but I couldn't see the whole lawn.

Maryanna

Maryanna Report 29 Oct 2014 13:27

Not much chance of just seeing a single magpie round here Ann, I can see three bouncing around in the tree right now, just by glancing out of the window !!!

I had a photo palaver day yesterday too Ken, I took loads of pictures of the butterfly, put them all on my laptop, then decided to use one here.

Could I find them ? No. They were on my photos but the site kept going to my downloads. I couldn't sort it out so in the end I took a photo of my laptop screen on my ipad, sent it to myself and downloaded it and Hey Presto !!! It's just a bit fuzzy.

Well this morning I did see in the garden, a pair of blackbirds, the female having a lovely bath, starlings, collard doves, sparrows and a solitary magpie. (good job I am not superstitious).

I too have seen red admirals in the last couple of days. Also a speckled wood today.

I haven't quite got the hang of the camera on my phone and after trying to get a photo of a red admiral, I found I had in fact taken a dozen of it, all more or less the same.

Maryanna

Maryanna Report 28 Oct 2014 19:16

The Robin has helped me all day in the garden today he has also sung to me from the fence.

After I came in, which wasn't until nearly 5 pm., I wondered why it was getting dark, I felt something tickling my leg, when I shook my jeans leg a bee fell out. It was very dopey, luckily, otherwise it might have stung me.

I have also given the conservatory a good dust after I found a Red Admiral caught in a cobweb, the only one I have seen in this garden this year. It sat on the Mahonia for a while so I took lots of photos and then it flew off next door.

Talking of Butterflies, the Nasturtiums are smothered in Cabbage White caterpillars, hopefully they will stay there and keep off my cabbages. I have already lost two lots to them.

Thank you everyone. It is just so sad and unbelievable that this has happened to such a young person. :-( :-( and in such a dreadful way.It was a train .

I saw something quite amusing this afternoon in town.Someone taking their Ferret for a walk on a lead :-D Although I did think it was a strange place to take a Ferret !!
I haven't looked for Ra**y again,but I expect it is still around :-S

SuffolkVera

SuffolkVera Report 28 Oct 2014 10:35

I hope your r..t doesn't have any cousins round here. They make me squirm. We used to see them where we lived before in the country but they didn't come close to the house, probably because we had two cats. I haven't seen any here. I know they must be around but they're out of sight and that's the way I like it.

Nothing but starlings here today and they are getting through the food as fast as I put it out. At this rate they are going to bankrupt me! :-D

Thinking of your son and the family of the person who died <3

Oh Jane, how awful for your son and his friend's family.
