I had to have my Varifocals altered .They were a tad off.I have had them about a year now and am getting used to bobbing my head up and down lol.Sometimes though especially when walking I do feel a bit woozy :-S.I had one pair with reactalight (if that is right) so they go darker in brighter light.

I think I might have just heard a Nightingale again :-D..The Wood Pidgeons are still doing naughties on the Summerhouse Roof. They have no shame LOL
Loved your comment Ann ;-)

I do hope that Kandj's OH is ok .It just seems one thing after another for them.
Thinking of you Kandj <3

Try looking at a printed page and slightly move your glasses up (holding them) to see if the magnification chhanges for the better. Could you read the print when the optician checked you when fitting the new glasses.

Hi, Ann, yes they are my first varifocals. I have got the head moving bit OK and don't seem to have a problem with the fuzzy bit in the middle or at the sides. I did go for the lenses with the minimum peripheral fuzziness as well and as my prescription is so strong I have to have the extra thin lenses, hence the £400 price tag on a frame that only cost £100 !!!

I just wonder if the reading part is strong enough, I wouldn't be able to do any fine sewing with them, I even had a job painting my nails.although it was clearer than when I tried to look through the top part of the lens !!!!

Will persevere, at least I am on holiday and don't have any notes to write up.

Waiting for youngest son to come back from work then all down to Somerset for ten days to join up with the others before I go back to work.

Maryanna, are these your first varifocals. You do need to lift your head a bit at first to look through the lower part of the lens. I have been wearing them for many years but do have a bit of a problem with the viewfinder on the small camera. (because the view finder itself is not very big.)

We have got a lot of Wood Pigeon action going on here as well.

Since the apple tree went we have had several of them in the garden, up to seven or eight sometimes at a go.

There is one pair that have built a nest in the same tree and under the Magpies mansion, it can only end in tears, too easy for the Magpies to nip downstairs for a snack.

The other pair are in the Holly bush next door. Now, this already seems to be home to anything that doesn't live in the Blackthorn and as the two trees grow they get more and more entwined.

The building if this nest is all consuming, they are constantly in and out of the Holly. They seem to be getting bits of twig from next door and as you say, Jane, they look like trapeze artists at the circus.

They come flying in from the left, land on the stump of the apple tree, then wobble about a bit, then have to turn round 180 degrees, balancing their twig, then launch themselves off the stump and crash land with a huge flapping of wings,in the Holly.

They are doing this at a rate of about once every two minutes, every time I look out of the window there is a great fat pigeon in front of me.

New glasses are fine and I haven't had any problems adjusting to the varifocals, I just wonder if I should be able to see close up things clearer, I can read ok but I still find myself peering over the top to file a nail or look at my camera screen. There is no way I would be able to look through the view finder. Will give it a week or so and may then pop back and have a word.

Jane Report 1 Apr 2015 17:01

I was watching a big Wood Pidgeon earlier. It was stood on the path with a massive twig in it's beak looking up at the conifers(where the nest must be).It must have been thinking "How the heck am I going to get this in there" lol It looked like he had one one those long poles that tight rope walkers hold to keep their balance :-D :-D
No camera at hand :-S
Then a little later I saw it give a good shake of its feathers. The dust that came out was amazing.'twas like massive cloud :-S :-S....I have not seen that before.

Jane, glad you enjoyed the Curious Incident, I read it about five years ago.

Having worked with children with Autism and Aspergers for twenty years I found some of it quite amusing.

I have been hearing a Green Woodpecker " yaffling" in the woods across the road for a few days. This morning I wad looking out of the window and spotted a a Great Tit so I thought I would take a photo. It wasn't until I had the camera pointed at it that I realised there was also a Spotted Woodpecker the other side of the feeder.

I wasn't expecting one if those, a green one, yes.

Needless to say just as I was about to press the button, next doors kids came screaming outside and there hadn't been a bird, except Fatty Pigeon, in the garden since.

I can see a day of looking out of the window ahead of me. Except for when I go to collect my new glasses later this afternoon. Might be able to see them in future.

AnninGlos Report 28 Mar 2015 09:26

I too have a painful left thumb, although not constantly.

Jane, maybe the moorhens have gone back to a regular nesting site somewhere. <3 :-)

Maryanna

Maryanna Report 27 Mar 2015 22:14

Oooh, Jane, painful thumbs, my left one started to hurt about ten years ago then about four years ago the right one started.

My sister has started to have the same problem, the pain just grabs you, I now have little knobbly lumps at the base of both thumbs and keep dropping things because they lock up.

I can sympathise. I had them both x rayed last year. " just arthritis ", apparently.

Not many little birds about today, mostly the bigger boys !!!

I wonder where your Moorhens have got to ? I hope they are safe.

M.. :-)

Jane Report 27 Mar 2015 17:42

Well I woke with painful thumb joints this morning so I am happy to be here LOL

I'm glad we have no Jackdaws here Maryanna.Looking at the chimneys along the road we all seem to have cages on.But down in the village there are some lovely old cottages and I can see the Jackdaws in some of those Chimney Pots.

I had a new visitor today.Mr Pheasant brought his girlfriend for a meal :-D...But sadly I still only have the one Moorhen :-(

Red Kite is flying overhead at the moment, he has been around for the last few days and seems to have been spotted in several locations in the town so I suspect there is more than one.

Other people have seen them where we spotted the one last week, so that is most probably a different one.

I am waiting to see what happens when the Buzzards come across him.

The Jackdaws are nesting in next doors chimney again, they are noisy argumentative creatures, always squabbling amongst themselves or with the Magpies.

I am a golden oldie and have the morning aches and pains to prove I am still alive!

I'm sure that your daughter will be looking forward to going on holiday Ann. I like your thoughts on making new memories. Your daughter is keeping busy and obviously takes after her Mum for having such a positive attitude to coping with her sad loss.

It's a lovey bright and dry day here today. Still the usual (boring) starlings, blackbirds, pigeons.. I am fascinated by everyone's variety of birds and other creatures in garden.
