We never have any different birds here but I always find it really interesting reading of all the different species that show up frequently in other peoples gardens.

How is everyone with this bad weather? Ann I think you may well be one of the worst affected today.Hope you are all hunkered and battened down.I just see on the news 15 thousand homes without electricity.Hopefully you are not one of them.
I can't say I have seen that many birds today .But the window feeder is empty again.They must be blown on there by the wind ,grab a bit of food and then disappear lol.I did see a Sparrow Hawk fly over the garden earlier.It certainly looked like he had the wind behind it by the speed it was going LOL

I have just managed to get Thomas out the back door now the rain seems to have stopped.But poor thing was so spooked by the wind.Still he needs to go out as he has slept almost all day.No doubt he will be off on the hunt now.

We have had a few storms and my car has got wet inside somehow (9still not found out how) but that haas dried out in the garage more or less. today the sun is shining and it is quite pleasant here. I think we have missed the worst of it although we are still on amber alert for the River Severn area.

We are still getting the goldfinches, even in the worst weather theya re out there clinging to their little perches on the niger feeder. we have also had a wren, great tit, starling and sparrow on the feeders today.

Not had time to watch the birds other than noting the usual goldfinch, three blackbirds and a wood pigeon while eating breakfast. Internet then went down so we went off to Tesco for the weeks shop, had a coffee. Walking round the shop phone rang.

GREAT GRANDSON number two had arrived (remember elective C Section was for Monday? Well she went into labour). Adam William Anthony was born safely at 10.34am today. So far don't know any details so don't know if he was born naturally or by C Section or his weight but so far we are all smiling.

OOOOhhhh Ann, that is wonderful news. Lovely names too. So little Luke has a baby brother, such happiness for you all. Congratulations and welcome baby Adam. xx

Bright and dry here now after a frosty beginning this morning. Usual birds around.
Not see the little robin here lately. He must be Bob Bob Bobbing Along, elsewhere??

Just heard he weighed 7lb15oz and was born by caesarean. :-)

Wonderful news Ann. Congratulations to you all, especially the new parents and welcome to baby Adam. You will have to let us know what Luke thinks about it all.

Still hardly seeing any birds. This morning there was one pigeon and one blackbird in the garden before we went out. Yesterday I did see a pair of sparrows on the fat balls and today I saw them sitting on the fence but it really is no bird watchers' paradise here. In the two years we have lived here the birds are about the only thing I've really missed from our old house. With a mature half acre garden, containing lots of trees, shrubs and a pond, and being surrounded by farmland, the garden was always full of birds, a bit as I imagine Jane's house is now. I specially miss the green woodpeckers who used to come up quite close to the back door and I miss the bird song, or in the case of the woodpeckers the bird screech .

Still, I can't have everything I suppose and there are other compensations to living here. I'll just have to persevere and hope that eventually I can entice a few more birds in.

Congratulations Ann for the latest arrival to the family.I haven't heard the name Adam for a long time.Nice name :-D..Hope Mum and Baby are doing well <3 <3

Bex is still in hospital Vera, I am sure there will be fun and games when she takes Adam home. Luke will be expecting a baby brother who can play with him. I thought you'd all like to see the photo of Adam, he is so like his dad was at that age and so much smaller than Luke was. (Almost 2 pounds smaller!)

We have had quite a few birds round today, squabbling blackbirds, amorous wood pigeons, hungry collard doves and the ever eating goldfinches. (well given how much they need to eat to survive and the size of their seed I suppose it has to be non stop eating.). We have also had great tits, blue tits, sparrows and starlings around. And OH saw a very small bird he couldn't identify and it wasn't a wren, of course by the time he called me it had gone!!!!

Aww, what a beautiful little baby boy. Adam has lots of hair Ann...... a lovely baby.
So when will you be visiting baby and big brother Luke next...... lots of cuddles there.

Just the same sort of birds all morning and then I looked up and saw a Magpie sitting in the tree across the road. A single Magpie, which unnerved me to be honest.
I remembered the Magpie rhyme....... one for sorrow, two for joy etc.
Perhaps tomorrow the Magpie will be back with a mate, and I will be very happy then.

Well I don't know what got into the birds at lunch time. Really weird behaviour from blue and great tits and a couple of sparrows. Our patio by the house is bordered by the fence on the right the house at the back and the conservatory on the left. With the lounge window across the house part. It was raining/sleeting and the birds were flying right up to the house window (no the camera was upstairs at the time, the great tit sat on the back of the patio chair and looked in the window then they appeared to be catching something but it was so cold I can't think there wee any insects out there. We were mesmerized by the flying ballet.

yes, even though I say it myself, he is a lovely baby. caesarian babies don't have the wrinkled look of naturally born babies do they? He has the same head of hair his father had and also his Grandmother our daughter.
It will be about 5th March before we see them but I shall be looking forward to my cuddles. Daughter is going down Monday, stopping here tomorrow to break the journey. :-) :-)

I wonder what the birds were after in your garden. It certainly sounds as though there were insects flying, though it seems unlikely if your weather is anything like ours. It was raining hard this morning and has been mizzling on and off all afternoon, and there is quite a strong, very cold, wind. Not a sign of a bird anywhere!

I had to deliver something to a house just over half a mile away. Decided it wasn't worth getting the car out and I needed the exercise so I walked. I was well wrapped up and only out 25 minutes but I came back frozen. Even though I had mittens on, my thumbs were numb. It reminded me of when I was a little girl and came in with cold hands. My Mum used to say that silk was the best thing to warm me up and used to wrap my hands in a "silk" scarf. I always felt warmer straight away. As we weren't well off the scarf would really have been "artificial"
silk so I think it was the attention from Mum that was really warming me up :-D

There must have been some kind of insects that the birds were after Ann.Nothing like that going on here today.I think the Blackbirds have been the most visitors on the window feeder.It has all been a bit quiet on the bird front.

Ann Caesarian babiesare born with lovely round heads and smooth faces .Both my 2 were C Section babies and had that look :-)I suppose it is the not having to fight their way down through the birth canal .It gives me wrinkles just imaging that journey lol

Vera you were brave doing that walk in this freezing cold today.It has been bitter here.
I have not heard of silk warming you up.But there might be something in it.Yes it may just have been your Mum's attention ..But how nice was that :-D :-D

OH wondered if it was insects that had 'hatched' for want of a better word, due to the warmer weather as the birds were trying to get in under the edge of the conservatory and in round the fence. Not seen them doing it since though.

Yes he does look scrumptious doesn't he? they are home now so not heard much from them, I expect they are tired. Always tiring getting babies into new routines.

Baby Adam looks so comfortable Ann. He is beautiful and will bring lots of joy and happy times ahead for your daughter and the family now.

Only starlings braving the bitterly cold weather and the snow we had this afternoon.

Busy busy birds out there today, four blackbirds around and a robin, quite a few bluetits and great tits, a couple of starlings 4/5 Goldfinches, a dove ot two and one wood pigeon. Oh and a few sparrows as well. The chopped peanuts have been scattered from the feeder onto the grass so the ground feeders like that.

Yet another birdless day - no, I tell a lie, I saw a pigeon and a blackbird. It's bitterly cold but we had a few sunny spells today. In fact at one point we had sunshine and sleety snow at the same time.

I have to go out tonight to a Club I belong to. We start at 8 pm but the centre where we meet isn't unlocked or the heating put on till 7.30 and it takes most of the evening for the place to warm up. Thermal vest tonight I think :-)

Quite a few seagulls swooping around today. We don't often see them so it was a novelty to be honest. No other birds so perhaps they were frightened off.

Thermals and warm clothes sound a good idea Vera. I hope you still enjoyed it.

apparently somebody has seen a red kite over our estate so we will have to keep our eyes open.
Just home from gloucester and another visit to the docks (and Weatherspoons - steak day today which was excellent). A lovely sunny day but a bit cold, not much wind though so not too bad. OH happy, he got a pair of cord jeans in the M&S outlet reduced right down from £39 to £9.50. I got a long sleeved Per Una top for £15 instead of £25 and a short sleeved top for £4.00 instead of £8. So I am happy too.
