Geordie, I like the descriptive parts so far, he writes those so well I just have read a bout 3 chapters and haven't really got into it yet but it seems as though it will develop well. Will let you know. Yes read the other Kate Morton books and also like Rachel Hore.

Hi, I've read and enjoyed all of Kate Morton's books. Rachel Hore writes in a similar vein, and is also well worth reading.
I quite enjoyed The Haunting by Alan Titchmarsh - especially as it was about searching for ancestors. Different from his other books.

Just finished reading The Secret Keeper by Kate Morton. A really good book I thought, kept me guessing and didn't see the twist coming at the end until she hit me with it. :-D

Hi, just back to say that I haven't actually read Fifty Shades of Grey, and don't even fancy it. I'm a clean living Geordie lass!

I have just finished Ann Murrays chocalate girls I loved it, I like to relax with pink and fluffy, and then read the follow up Bourville Girls bit predictable that one wasnt as good as the choc girls but I love the attention to detail and I think she maps her books out very well, I discovered the history of Cadburys which I thought was very interesting.

I am great fan of Kitty Neals and read one of her books a couple of weeks ago, the book is set in 1971 and the story is about a man and wife set in London eastend and they live with her mother, during one bit, the man is annoyed as the mother wants to watch her programe on TV and he wants to watch The Sweeny I felt totally let down as the sweeney didnt air till 1975. :-(

I loved "Bird Song" too. Have (or had) a paperback edition.
Will have to check pages fifty +, if I have still got the book. (it may have gone to the charity shop).

I loved "Bird Song" by Sebastian Faulks. It is a very moving and explicit account of World War 1, and if you want an erotic read, page 50 + leaves Fifty Shades of Grey standing!

It's called 'My dear I Wanted to Tell You' by Louisa Young
Follows a young man from childhood on the poor streets of London into adulthood and the muddy bloody battlefields of WWI
It is exceptional well written giving a glimpse his life at the front, and the woman he loves back at home.
Heart wrenching and very real

Would like to read "A Cat called Bob" but next one lined up is" Dune" by Frank Herbert, a friend lent it to me months ago, so must have a go at it, it will probably be the end of 2013 by the time l finish it though..its big..lol

I have just finished The Gift and have to say for an easy read through the victorian ages it was a lovley book.......

For those who have kindle I joined Prime on Amazon which was offered to me free trial for a month ....so any book I would like to read I can borrow on dowload for free, I can just cancel Prime nearer the end of free month......worth giving it a go ! :-D ;-)

Another book I have been reading is "Black Diamonds" (The Rise and Fall of an English Dynasty) by Catherine Bailey. A non-fiction book.
The "English Dynasty" is the Fitzwilliam family of Wentworth in Yorkshire, it tells of their spectalular decline: of inheritance fights; rumours off a changling and of lunacy; philandering earls; illicit love; war heroism etc etc etc.
Part of their wealth came from the coal mines they owned, the book also tells of mining poverty and squalor, strikes, mine disasters and a class war that literally ripped apart the local landscape.The 6th Earl Fitzwilliam - William Thomas Spencer Fitzwilliam 1815-1902 was father t eight sons (and six daughters - but daughters could not inherit the title) The eight sons born between 1839 and 1862 all had the first name William! (plus a middle name).

A really good read about social history and how changes eccected all parts of society.
I am going to be checking this family out on Census and other records.

A well told story, what a great way to learn British History. It was never this interesting when I was at school.
