Yes I have read it Vera and also enjoyed it.
Didn't take me too long but some books like That Woman
took me ages, why I don't know.

Am ploughing through Nicholas and Alexandra at the moment. Had it on the Kindle for ages and thought it was about time I read it. I'm enjoying it but getting confused with the Russian names and all the different Grand Duchesses - I have to keep looking back to remind myself who they all are.

I know the book came up a while ago on this thread. Was it Emma that was reading it? Did it take you a while to get through it? I'm normally a quick reader but I seem to be quite slow with this book.

I read this and thought of our little thread.........

Books fall open
we fall in
delighted where
you've never been
hear voices
not once heard before
reach world through world
through door on door
find unexpected
keys to things
locked up beyond
imaginings
True books will venture
dare you out
whisper secrets
maybe shout
across the gloom
to you in need
who hanker for
a book to read

The Four Streets - Nadine Dorries Kindle Price ONLY 20p

Please do not let the name put you off LOL

A heartbreaking family saga set in 1950s Liverpool, the first novel from the stunningly talented Nadine Dorries MP.

1950s Liverpool. In the tight-knit Irish Catholic community of the Four Streets, two girls are growing up.

One is motherless - and hated by the cold woman who is determined to take her dead mother's place. Will her adored father wake up to what is happening before it is too late?

The other is hiding a dreadful secret which she dare not let slip to anyone, lest it rips the heart out of the community. And yet, how long can she possibly live with it?

In the Four Streets there is almost nothing that a cup of tea and a good chat won't sort out. Laughing, grieving, hoping for better things - all this the people of the Four Streets can do together. But what can they do when a betrayal at the very heart of their world comes to light?

In a Class of Her Own - Mille Gray 99p on Kindle

It is 1938 and the Campbells have finally landed a new council house with an inside toilet in a desirable area of Leith. But just when Rachel, her shiftless husband Johnny and their assorted brood should be enjoying their good fortune, a consignment of pork chops changes their lives. Reading this exceptional debut by Edinburgh story-teller Millie Gray is like listening to a favourite grandparent recounting memories from the past. The struggles of the time are never far from the surface but what comes through is the humour, fortitude and irrepressible spirit of the people.
A MOVING FAMILY SAGA TELLING THE STORY OF A SINGLE MOTHER’S STRUGGLE TO BRING UP HER FAMILY IN WAR-TORN LEITH All Rachel Campbell really wants is a better life for herself and her children. But as the Second World War rages throughout Europe, life in Leith gets tougher day by day. Her feckless husband Johnny isn’t helping either, so finally Rachel has no choice but to fend for herself and the children through the poverty and dangers of wartime. This is their story, as Rachel struggles to survive and the children grow up with all the joys and disappointments that life brings in difficult times. Based on the real-life wartime experiences of author Millie Gray, In A Class of Their Own brilliantly recreates the atmosphere of the time with all the hardships and struggles as well as the fun, warmth and humour of everyday life.
