I came back from shopping to a nice surprise the set of punches from QVC had arrived , they are the Martha Steward ones that were on special value on Wednesday . How's that for quick service? I shall enjoy playing with them over the weekend.

Have made 6 cards this week so I am hoping now to do some scrap pages.

Oooh thank you Sarah...I have had a quick google and the inks are just what I am looking for...brilliant! Well not just a quick google I am afraid as I started looking around the craft site and I found some pretty flowers I have not seen before...I just love using flowers!! Hmmm now where did I put my purse lol.

Thanks for that Von...I do try to buy most scrappy things acid free...however I never gave a thought about the copious amount of ribbon and flowers I use!!

Thanks Sarah. I do use the cheap DS tape but only on my scrap books that will probably not be kept after I depart this earth.

Jan, go on, be adventurous, put a flower on the page, a large flower with a large glittery centre. I actually don'y usually glitter too much. I have used glitter on my title letters on a snow page though, that is effective.

Rick is right to be worried. Is he better now?

I've found tape runners to be ok Scatty, it's really cheap DST that tends to be a problem some will show through after a time.

I tend not to worry too much about my scrapbooks but that is because they are first and for most for me but obviously if you are aiming to create something that will last as I assume is the case with family history scrapbooks it is worth being careful about what you put on your pages.

Oh me too -I always use my tape runner thingy
omg I do love using sparkles they look great - even the tiny bits I leave them to dry overnight and in the morning they look fab - I need now to have the confidence to use in a bigger space than just one dot lol (Rick is getting very worried about me lol)

Ooh really I use a lot of double sided tape.

Ann
Yes sometimes it's difficult to remember when there are lots of easy to use lovely embellishments about.
The other thing that I think might affect things over time is double sided sellotape.
I know I've had some that has deteriorated over time.
Ah so much to think about!!!
Take care
Von

Thanks for that Von. I guess we all get carried away some times and forget about using acid free stuff etc.

Hi
Sarah you're probably correct about the tea although I have several sheets of paper that have had a lot of processes on them and know they have lasted over 10years so far. Not long I know in the grand scheme of things.

It is a very valid point you make and if you want something to "last" then you have to look carefully at any of the glues, cottons or trimmings that you use including anything with metal in it. Also where and how you store your work.

Even copies of photos will not last forever unless they are printed with special inks on special paper.

Light is another thing that can affect paper inks etc. A good way to test this is to tape a half of piece of the material on a window and put the other half in a dark place.
Take care and have fun
Von

Been doing some great pages, (with a tiny bit of glitter here and there lol)
:-))))))

AnninGlos Report 11 Feb 2010 14:12

Thanks for that Sarah, maybe only use tea on something that doesn't need to be kept for 'ever'. maybe it has acid in it, I hadn't thought of that. Thanks for the tips re the inks, will keep an eye out for them.

Linda, for distressed effects in distressed colours you might find 'Tim Holtz Distress Inks' made by Ranger interesting. Not only are the colour vintagey but they are designed to give you a slightly faded out worn look.

Can I also add that you need to be careful using cold tea to age paper as I have heard that it can cause damage over time.

Lol Ann I am pleased to see that I am not the only one who is confused.

That is a help...thanks.

Many thanks Ann...I will take a look.

I have a huge stash of vintage papers and I am hoping to find ink pads that will tone in with the the subtle colours.

I haven't used doyleys before...it was a tip which I read on one of your earlier threads Ann and I am looking to do something a little different.

Hi Linda,
If you look on the birthday cards thread for 6 Feb Jill has commented on inks.

Another thing you can use is cold tea, let it dry then if you want to crumple it a bit and iron it.

Good afternoon everyone...

I am looking for advice on ink pads please there seem so many on the market I am at a loss (it doesn't take much these days lol) wondering which would be the best type.

I would like to "distress" some paper doyleys for my family history albums...any advice will be most welcome.

I haven't been around for a while as our computer crashed big time...it looks as if I have a lot of catching up to do on your thread Ann.
